Fun reading. I really like Dennis McKiernan. Not his best work but still good. Ending could have been stronger.
He could have developed more about the forest and the connection to the characters. A little predictable regarding the missing sister. Again a little more depth would have been fun.

We got Fey, we got guns, we got true love and a mystery to boot! In true McKiernan style, Dennis grabs you and doesn't let go. This is not the first book Dennis combines fantasy with modern day, I do hope it will not be the last! I was hooked to this tale immediately. It was one of the few stories I've read in one sitting. This tale must go on!!!!

I met Dennis Mckiernan in the early 80's when he started writing about Warrows and Mithgar. I loved his books and his characters. His style then was high fantasy; elves, little people, magic and the like.

"At the Edge of the Forest" starts off in our reality with a very good mystery. Lots of modern techniques for solving the mystery, FBI, Black Ops, forensics, however, in the Mckiernan fashion, something hidden and something "not quite of this world" awaits deep in the forest.

It's a fine mystery and a good read, I hope to see more books like this from Dennis in the future. I highly recommend it and frankly, any of his other books you can still find in print!

First...........NO it is not Mithgar............Period. If that is what your looking for pass on by. It's more of a sci-fy thriller in modern day. It is a interesting read but a great departure from his normal writings. I hope he will get back to Mithgar!!!

I have always been a big fan of Dennis McKiernan. However, I was disappointed in this book. I am sorry he left Mithgar, and sorry he went with the modern day military, FBI, body guards with massive guns and all the modern day weapons to kill. This is not my kind of fantasy, and certainly is not as good as his other work. I live in this kind of world, don't want to read about for enjoyment.
