I bought this DVD for a friend who was raised in Berlin, New Hampshire and she called to tell me how thrilled she was with it. She found a picture of her father working in the mill and lots of other memory-inducing scenes. Very interesting for NH folks, especially.

A very good brief history of the town I grew up in. I have been all over the world, and there is no place like Berlin, NH. I am glad I was able to grow up there between the late 50s and early 70's.

My father was born in Berlin, NH in 1910, but my first visit there did not occur until 1952. I will never forget the smell of the paper mills as we drove into town. When I was older, my dad would recall his early years in Berlin: the tremendous cold and snow experienced, his lumberjacking days, his ski jumping exploits-- all aspects of my father that I never saw first hand. AT THE RIVER'S EDGE: AN ORAL HISTORY OF BERLIN, NEW HAMPSHIRE brought my father back to life, for it effectively portrays what life was like in this New Hampshire town near the Canadian border. From its glory days as the paper capital of the world to its slow decline in the 20th century, Berlin, New Hampshire is exposed here for the vital town that it was and for the struggling community it has become. One does not need to have lived there to appreciate the tale that Berlin has to tell to all town and city dwellers: a town is not merely the buildings, but rather the people and events that make up its history. Blind Squirrel Productions has beautifully captured, in still photographs and in town historians and common folk, the true essence of this New Hampshire town at the river's edge.

Loved this documentation brought back great memories. Berlin was a great place to live in the 50 s. I will never forget. It was a city with great values. Hard working people . Sports was out of this world not only hockey . Basketball .football
and baseball. Remember following the great Berlin High basketball teams in the late 40 s and attended many ot there football games. St Pats and Notre dame high.
Competetion in grammar school sports ,Angle Gardien,St Joseph,St Regis and STPats.
Again I say great presentation ,my only regret it did not last longer. Job well done
