The Ateco 4 Piece Stainless Steel Round Cutter Set contains cutters in the following sizes:
I haven't used them yet, but they feel sharp yet somewhat flimsy. I would be careful storing them so that they do not get dented, and as others mentioned, the plastic box that they come in will not hold up for long as a storage box. The tops of the cutters are turned under, and are comfortable to press down on while cutting, and the generous height makes them ideal for biscuits or even to use as a food mold. As with most stainless steel products, these cutters are made in China.
I was surprised that the quality for Ateco was so flimsy here. I have Ateco cutter sets from 20 years ago and the quality has surely gone down/ *Sigh...like everything I guess it just gets more expensive.
Oh well- I went with Ateco based on their reputation for brand quality but at almost $20 for this set, I may consider those cheapy cheap brands from under $10 since I bet you I may get the same product
This is the second attempt to write this review; it gets removed because they interpret that it refers to the shipping, however the box itself was not damaged, just the product inside. Again, the damage was due to the thin metal of which these are made.
Have only used them once, on a whim, to cut fudge - cold fudge.
It was a mistake. On the 4th cut, it got bent and now I have a cheap, soft, bent 1.25" cutter.
So, don't do that.
The others are, so far, unused. Perhaps I will put them to good use, someday.
I had wanted metal ones for a specific purpose, but I will probably try the plastic cutters, next time.
BTW, you want to stick these in a hot oven to dry, after you finish baking, to avoid rust. Hand drying is not sufficient.
The big concern with these cutters, however, is rust. They need to be dried well. However, if you put a bit of cornstarch in the bottom of the tin, these WILL NOT RUST! Guaranteed. Just wipe them off before using. Wash and dry normally, but don't stress about whether or not there's a still a drop of water on them. Highly recommended.
11 cm (not quite 4.5 inches)
3.5 inches (NOT 3.75 as listed above)
6 cm (not quite 2.5 inches)
Note that the "handle" end of the cutter is rolled for more comfortable use, making the top of the cutter measure slightly larger than the bottom, which is the part doing the cutting.
Is this nit-picky as heck? You betcha. Is this the difference between "Yay! My new cutters are here. Let's get to work!" and "Crud. I've got to keep shopping. Project delayed."? It is, indeed, if you need these in a professional capacity.
I needed a 3.75 inch cutter, and had to keep looking (a Matfer #100 cutter was the solution). I'm keeping these because they're pretty nice, and spare round cutters are not a bad thing, but what a frustrating experience!
