The book contains art from the following series:
Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana
Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana 2
Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm
Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis
Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy
Atelier Series Official Chronicle is a steal and anyone with an interest in the series should definitely buy it. The only complaint that I can think of, is that the book will make you regret that so many games in the series have not been localized in the English language, although that is no fault of the authors. I highly recommend this book.
Book also explains how each game changes/develops from the previous title, so that you can see the differences on each title. The illustration on this books are from game jacket, special illustration, telephone card, scene on game, etc. It does not contain screen from game play (so obvious).
If you would like to know how they create Atelier game, compose music, create an illustration, then the back of the book that contains interview Q&A will be a place to learn.
Also, the very last section of the book is an interview specifically dedicated to an illustrator of the latest Atelier series, Mel Kishida (Atelier Rorona was the latest title released when this book was published in Japan).
If you are a fan of Atelier game, it shows almost every essentials of the Atelier Series, except the game play (we have to buy the software for this). Overall, you will not regret it. Even if you do not know about Atelier games, it still is a great book containing a beautiful illustrations of one of the well known game in Japan.
One note to prospective buyers: This is primarily a CHRONICLE and not an ARTBOOK. It is composed mainly of in-game pictures accompanied by comments and recollections by the artists and developers. You won't find original art featuring the game's characters the way you would in other artbooks.
That being said, this is a great book, and a wonderful addition to the bookshelf of any Atelier fan.
This book doesn't teach you how to become a better artist. It just shows a collection of artwork from some of the best artists. I don't mind if an art book doesn't teach me any new techniques as long as the artwork in the book somehow inspires me to become a better artist. This book makes me want to practice harder so that someday I could be as good as these artists.
I really wish I could recommend this to everyone. However, because it contains half naked females, I would recommend this to only teens and adults but not children. I also own almost all the other Udon Entertainment art books and I would like to take the time to recommend them all. In my opinion Udon is just the best of the best. I don't work for them. I don't get paid by them. I'm just a fan of their art books.
