Top speed: about ~15 mph with my rider weight of 180 lbs.
Range: I have found that I get about 9 to 10 miles on average. this depends on a lot of factors, I use sidewalks often and encounter roads that are not well paved.
This thing is built like a tank. It has an aluminum battery enclosure that goes from nose to tail of the board. The ends of the section are plastic. Because of the aluminum, the batteries have ample protection from punctures or damage, and also adds rigidity to the entire skateboard. You may need to periodically clean out the area between the deck and the enclosure as sand and debris will creep its way in.
The B36 has large wheels for a typical longboard. The deck also rides much higher off the ground, about 4 inches from the center of the wheels, meaning it might not be as aerodynamic as other longboards. The carry handle makes transporting easier than vertical holding. The board has virtually no wobble or flex, making it very predictable under your feet. I wish there was a rubber flap or some cap for the charging port on the board to keep dirt from getting in.
The remote is very straight forward and easy to use. The pointer finger hole keeps your fingers well locked on. It only has one power button, and a throttle rotary switch, for forward and brake. There is a nub that protrudes from the switch making it easy to use. It wish it had more battery indicator levels, it currently only has 4 (with very low disabling the skateboard). The remote has fallen and hit asphalt and still works great. Note: the remote does not come with a wrist strap or a good spot for a key chain, I had to screw a strap into place on my unit.
While it might not go as fast as other e-skateboards, it performs decently well. Yes the top speed might not be as high as others, but it handles going over (small) potholes and rocks with ease. Granted, you should still avoid these, as they can send you flying off your board. Hill performance is also excellent.
UPDATE: Atom Electric was awesome in sending me a new board, since my old board was within the 6 month warranty.
It's been about 4 months into owning this board, and the remote and board will randomly drop connection now. I can get about 5 minutes of ride time before it occurs. Resetting the board and remote will fix the problem temporarily, but in a couple minutes the connection will drop again. Really frustrating. I've contacted atom for their warranty service, hopefully they will take care of it.
Have taken it out and really beat it up. So far: Good quality, great power. Tighten up the trucks and the truck mounts some and you should be good to go. After riding it a few times have gotten past the deck feeling a little awkward and sitting high (my initial impression) I now really like everything about this board Atom did a good job with this package. Except... the top speed, seems to tap out a little early to me. Still a respectable speed, I would call it fast cruising. I Find myself wanting a little bit more (I also downhill so I am use to getting some more speed) . Dont know if i hit 18 mph on anything flat(i also weight 220). I know i was doing 15 mph up a descent hill. I am sure it hits 18 on a down hill grade. That is the only down side, but I am sure most people would find the top speed just fine and exhilirating enough. I highly reccomend this board especially considering the price. Initially gave it 4/5 stars, after riding it more I have since upgraded the rating. Would like some more speed and and a longer range (I ride in the hills and am not a small person) but as far as bang for the buck this is in the big leagues for half the price. 3 months into, this this is still kicking along, confirmed 18 mph on flat and 15 up a pretty big hill. Also took me uo some steep hills and made it all the way. Did a 5 mile loop with some pretty big hills up and down, maxed out on anything that wasnt downhill. Battery showed low, but still has a mile or two in it. Considering waht i just did too it. Thought it was a good performance. I have since changed out the deck to a more downhill deck I prefer. Really wasnt worth the effort. Would love to put this ser up on a really long deck and lower rhe trucks off the battery compartment. All in all a great board.
