Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

The American occupation of Japan professed to introduce democracy to the Japanese, but censorship of the news and publishing media did occur. The use and effects of the atomic bombs were among the topics of concern, as the occupying forces sought to protect the image of the United States, prevent the spread of secret information, and avoid upsetting domestic tranquility. One of the unfortunate results was inadequate treatment of the bombs' victims. This topic has lacked adequate coverage, and the author demonstrates command of the sources. Nevertheless, this revision of Braw's dissertation is a slim volume, with only a small portion devoted to atomic bomb censorship, which needs a more balanced treatment.

4.0 out of 5 stars An uncommon essay upon censorship during the Allied Occupation
Reviewed in Italy on June 24, 2016
The essay is divided in 10 chapters, unfortunatly the paper quality is not the best and the book was pressed only in black and white with poorly attention to aesthetic. In my personal opinion the price is exaggerate taking into account the fact that the book has not more then 200 pages, but this essay is really rare and important in order to study Japan history under Allied Occupation and the Atomic Bomb censorship.
Great attention was given to scientific essay censored by censorship departments but the essay presents also a brief view to literature based upon atomic bomb and editorial and political situation towards the topic.
It is possible to find also pictures of Scap files that increase the importance of this work.
