Editorial Reviews

Product Description

''If you enjoy trad-meets-sci-fi surf sounds, the new Atomic Mosquitos CD is for you. Cool sounds, solid playing and great artwork from Stephen Blickenstaff. One really cool thing is that the CD contains all original material (13 tunes). No covers necessary. Pick up this CD!'' - Art Bourasseau, MuSick Recordings

Review

This is a really nice set of surf tunes, well written and maturely arranged, yet fun and adventurous. -- Reverb Central - Phil Dirt

I read a review that just could not say enough good things about the smooth surf these nasty mosquitos produce. So, I finally got myself a copy and I can only concur with those who rave. At times I miss some vocal sound, but just sit back and let them massage your mind, or get up and move to the groove. Be ready to be surprised at every turn. I highly recommend this CD to all surf lovers and others with good taste.

While this is a truly delightful set of modern, original surf tunes, with wonderfully catchy and exotic melodies (wanna know what ringing chords are? Go to the "Love Canal"), I'm rather disappointed with the recording, which almost ruins the fun at times: ear-jarring, highly unclean guitar, plus cardboard-like drums often too low in the mix. Of course I don't really believe the Mosquitos' equipment to be kaputt - those amps, they just seem overdriven -, but if this is the way they wish to sound like, well, not a good idea. Then there's no need to be as ultra-smooth as, say, The Penetrators either - "Release the Mosquitos", their own album number two, would be the very point of reference. -- Still like it a lot, but in this case, the download version will do for me.
