Unlike other USB 2.0 Hubs on the market, the Atomik Tech hub was built with Speed and reliability in mind. The unique design and architecture provides for the fastest 2.0 hub on the market, most other USB hubs have one single USB controller chip while the Atomik Tech Hub has 3 separate controller ships to distribute the work load when multiple devices have been plugged in. The Atomik tech 10 Port Hub features a very sleek and professional design. Unlike other USB hubs, the Atomik Tech 10 Port hub is a combination of functionality and aesthetics. It is externally powered, adapter included. Seven ports on the front at standard-space intervals, three on the back for any large USB plugs. The design is simple and functional. It could be considered to feel a touch flimsy, but without abuse it should be fine. I do not recall any problems installing it.
The original purchase was in 2010; as of this writing in 2013 times have changed. Back then I needed it to connect multiple external hard drives to a computer, all running 24/7. Now I am thinking of digging it out for using to charge the many USB devices that have come into my life--if it still works.
One other factor to consider in my experiences with it is that I did not do anything to take care of it. Though I did nothing that would specifically hurt it (like getting it wet or dropping a heavy object on top), I also did nothing to protect it from dust and hair, which was rather prevalent in its home on the floor. This may or may not have impacted its cessation of proper functionality.
My recommendation would be to not to purchase this, and instead to look into other hubs and research those. This is especially true as if you are shelling out for a hub in 2013, you might as well get one with at least a few USB 3.0 ports. Nonetheless, this was not a bad purchase.
The blue LED light on this hub lights up half the room! I've never seen such a bright light on a peripheral before. No need for a night light if this thing is on!
Was a bit wary at first, 10 port hub and a power supply all for THAT price! But the previous reviews convinced me it was a good deal, and they're right. Very satisfied with this fine product. If I have one complaint (and this is really nit-picking and a bit anal) it is that the cable to connect to the computer USB is white, I prefer all my cables to be black. Luckily I had an extra black cable on hand.
Update: It's 4 years later and this is still working like a charm.
I opened the unit to find that the only thing holding the ac contact into the unit is a solder connection. So I think that is a poor safety design but on the hand it's easy to fix. The other thing that's kind of obnoxious is the blue power light. It seems way over powered. I think you could line up 100 of these guys on each side of a runway and airliners could easily just on the candle power putout by these guys. I covered mine with a piece of electrical tape and you can still see the light shining through.
I would recommend it to anyone with the need for electronics that require a plug in wire because the computer, I have, has only 4 USB Ports. It is easier to use this unit because it is handy.
Anyway, with 10 ports on the Atomik, I now have all my peripherals plugged in at the same time. The Atomik has never had a problem handling all traffic, even when I've had multiple devices running at the same time, including an external hard drive, a film scanner, a card reader, a fax modem, my iPhone, a printer, a camera and an EyeTV device. Even with live TV streaming through the EyeTV, I can run a scan and access the hard drive all at the same time with never a problem. And the iPhone connection has been problem free, as well.
To be fair I don't know how to rate this hub. If the hub is causing the problem then I would rate it as one star. If it is my computer is the problem then I would rate it as five stars. I would rate the company at zero stars if I could due to zero customer service.
