Our nations child protection system desperately needs a clear definition of attachment and bonding so all the stakeholders can communicate effectively and work collaboratively on behalf of children in care. While previous books have been written on the subject of attachment and bonding, they have not clearly defined the difference between the two verbs within the context of a parent-child relationship; that is UNTIL NOW!
Now we can discuss important familial issues like.. who loves whom, who is the real parent, how do we objectively declare that a family is or is not bonded, how do we weigh a genetic parent-child relationship versus a loving and caring parent- child relationship where the two are bonded(?).
This book makes sense of the legally and historically confusing attachment and bonding issues. It guides us through a process in which we find ourselves better able to discern between these two words. The Kenny's further offer up empirical data and methodology on collecting useful bonding information, thus enabling better communication and decision making between the stakeholders.
