The last human city is under attack by giant, fearsome Titans and it's up to your team to stop them! based on the action from the world-renown attack on Titan anime and manga series, you and your fellow players will battle relentless Titans for humanity's very survival in this cooperative deck-building game. Collect the weapons and tactics you need, then test your mettle on the wall before it's too late. Play as eren, mikasa, armin and many others as you struggle to keep the Titans at bay. New to this Cerberus engine game is movement. The location of your hero in the game area matters. Protect the walls or watch them crumble. But do not lose hope, no matter the odds and no matter who among you falls to the Onslaught. It may soon be up to you to land the killing blow that will turn the tide of battle.

We were able to pick up the rules pretty quickly, but the strategy is giving us problems. We've played with 5 players, 3 players and 2 players. I DO NOT recommend 5 players. The cards/Titans come out way too quickly and you don't have much time to get your deck built. 3 players was MUCH better and we even made it to the last 2 titans before losing.
Out of the first 6 games we played we only won 1, so be prepared for a titan thrashing the first few games and don't be afraid to let your hero die. Remember that you can take as many wounds as you like, so if you've got a poor hand, don't be afraid to take one for the team to save a wall.
If you're an fan of Attack On Titan fan, anime, or deck building games, pick it up! You won't be disappointed.
There are no laughs in this game.
The Attack On Titan Deck Building Card Game is a high-intensity, co-operative, and challenging game that uses the same core engine as other Cryptozoic games. You play your cards to generate Power, and you use that Power to "buy" new cards to add to your deck, making your deck a bit better each turn so you can generate more Power for the next, and buy better cards. Alongside Power, Attack On Titan also introduces Moving. There are 5 walls, and on each side of those walls is a space, and you have to generate move to get to those spaces. You can buy cards if you aren't in the same space as that card, and you can't attack Titans unless you're in the same space as that Titan.
Oh right... Titans. So this is a co-operative game where all the players work together against a common enemy, the Titans. The Titans appear outside the walls and Ambush everyone nearby. Your goal as a player is to protect your home within the walls and eliminate the Titans. The Titans goal is the destroy the walls and eradicate mankind. You defeat standard Titans by moving to them and spending Power equal to their costs. If you don't, at the end of each round, they'll attack the walls, and if a wall gets hit twice, it's destroyed, along with everything protected by it. Lose all 5 walls and you lose the game.
But on top of the standard Titans, there are also super-powered Archenemy Titans who cost more to beat, have health that needs to be eroded away before you can even try, and pull out hidden tricks and powers when you finally manage to wage an assault. They also deal double damage to walls, so they can take out a wall with a single hit, but you can protect the walls with your body and incur that damage as a wound. But watch out, gain a Wound while you already have one in play and you die. That's it. You're dead and your friends have to go on without you. It's rough.
This is not a game that is designed to be won. This is a game that can be won. The feeling of dread and overwhelming is akin to what you feel actually watching the anime. You're not some superheroes that are destined to overcome this threat, like the Crisis expansions can often times feel. You're a ragtag group of humans facing up against a superhuman threat, and you'll have to strategize, work together, and make serious sacrifices if you want to succeed, and even then, success is far from guaranteed.
This game is not for people who hate losing. It's not for people who want to relax. It's not for the faint of heart. This game is for people who want a real challenge. There's no rainbows or sunshine. Just gruesome difficulty and strife. It's hard. Real hard.
And we can't get enough. Definitely recommended for fans of Cryptozoic, Attack on Titan, both, or neither. Maybe not for kids, though. Some of the artwork and ideas can haunt your dreams.
