Bought this after watching the whole anime series (season 1). The anime was actually slower compared to the manga, but I highly enjoy both. The art for the manga took a while to get used to, since it is more gritty than the clean-cut anime. Also, although I appreciate the advancement of the plot, I feel like the manga could have done with more character development. Then again, there might be some in future volumes. It's hard not to read this and compare with the anime since I watched that first, but I love the story and I will be purchasing the rest of this series.

I bought all of the currently available volumes of the manga at the same time, so I'm going to do a review right here of the whole thing. I won't include any huge spoilers.

The setting of this world is basically the apocalypse; the majority of humanity has been wiped out by huge man-eating humanoid creatures called Titans. The survivors of humanity hide behind huge walls to protect themselves, and only a brave few, the Survey Corps, venture from the safety of the walls to fight against the Titans. For a hundred years, humanity has lived inside these walls in relative peace, without fear of being eaten by those monsters. All that is about to change when the Titans attack.

Enter Erin Jaeger, a boy with intense drive, and a strong will to kill the Titans and see the world. His adopted sister, Mikasa, has a naturally aptitude for anything she tries, and she'll protect Erin with her life. Their best friend Armin is physically weak, but his intelligence is second to none. Together they'll try to survive in a world that seems to become deadlier by the day, and try to help save humanity from extinction.

I've never read a manga before reading this, and I have to say, it'll be hard for anything to match Attack on Titan. This story draws you in with complex characters, elitism, and (for a lack of a better term) ninja action. If gruesome images bothers you, than a manga about man-eating monsters may not be best for you, but if you think you can get through it, you won't be disappointed. This is an excellent series and I cannot wait for more.

Woah! This book is awesome. It is super dark and very gory. This was my first introduction into manga, and I'm glad I started here. Know that it is completely black and white, and the creepy artwork kept me up at night. This is definitely not for children.

This fast paced Seinen manga is amazing. The pacing in this volume is really well done and is a must read for new manga and anime fans!

The rating is for the content of the book--it's a great manga series and a modern classic.

The Kindle version, however, I would give one star, because of so many technical issues! It glitches constantly, skips pages, and gets stuck on loops of the same three pages over again. I tried for over an hour to read it, and finally gave up out of frustration.

I have a 2014 Kindle Paperwhite, which I otherwise love, but I won't be buying manga for my Kindle again until this issue is addressed :(

When I first read this manga I thought this was the best manga ever, it's a lot different than the other manga I have read. This manga shows a lot action, adventure and mystery type manga. I am really into these action type manga and what kept me interested was mystery behind the manga on what is going to happen next. This has got to be one of my favorite manga that I have read so far. Great manga even when the condition of the manga didn't look new, it was still great.

I never liked manga or any anime. I've never seen or read one in my entire life.
Attack on Titan blew my mind, however. Hands down the best entertainment I've ever seen in the last three years (I'm comparing this to all the other TV series, novels, movies I've seen). A solid 5/5. I wholeheartedly recommend this title to anyone.

AoT is a great read. It's different than any other manga and it does not play out the way you'd think or hope it will. The mystery behind the titans and the struggle to survive is amazing in this manga. You find yourself unable to put the book down and desperate for any type of answers. The manga does a great job of keeping the story interesting and not stringing you along with pointless arcs that lead no where. The story seems to drive forward and have purpose. I can see AoT becoming the next big franchise (I.e. Naruto, dragonball). If you have not read this and like anime/manga or if you have never read a manga before then you should pick this up and give it a read.
