This is a unique movie from Russia, although the plot has been observed many times before. I found similarities with the Day The Earth Stood Still, Starman, and a few others from the '50s. When you make the aliens similar to humans, you lose a great deal of science fiction. A good example is the epic horror film, The Thing, with Kurt Russell, with the alien being a non-human entity that mimics humans. The theme is one of love and compassion, with the alien living in a world without death and a clean environment, after coming to earth when their spaceship malfunctions. Earth is forbidden for them to visit for reasons that were spelled out at the end of the movie, just like in the movie, The Day The Earth Stood Still. We see the younger generation interacting with social media, meeting to protest, and dancing to popular Russian Rap. I can't forget the fight scene in the movie, District Nine, which is similar to the fight scene at the end of the movie. Overall, it was a little too long, I've seen most of this before, but it was unique coming to from Russia. I did see Lays potato chips, Philips medical monitors, and a Range Rover. So Russia is changing as well.
