Attractions takes you on a journey with a man and his family while on vacation. I didn't realize until now no character names are given in this short. At any rate, the husband is very attracted to his wife and loves her body. His inner thoughts recall how her body has changed pre and post children. All he can think about is his her body and making love to her throughout the day. If he could have it his way he would give the kids some money to run off to the arcade for a while so he can have some adult time with mommy but that would be unacceptable behavior.
Attractions is an interesting read. I don't think I've read a character like this. I didn't know if he was really enamored with his significant other or simply horny. By the end of the book I had my answer though.
Some topics Attractions deals are imprinting, objectification, spirituality, afterlife. This author tackles the above subject matter in a creative and entertaining way. Attractions gets 4.5 boy I wasn't expecting to still be thinking about book stars!
Book starts out with him and his family at the amusement park. It's summer and the heat and lines of people waiting are getting to him. There is no place among family outings to get it on with his wife.
They each design their own cars and then they get to ride in them. The father and son in one car, the mother and two girls in the other and they race against one another to design the one that will give them the most points.
He keeps imagining women and their parts as he gets turned on even more. He wonders at times if it's all a dream...
Excerpt from another story is included.
As a woman, I am always wondering what men are thinking, specifically what my husband is thinking. Attractions is an amazing insight into the male brain.
Our narrator is a husband and father who will do whatever he needs to in order to make his family happy. He will wait in long lines at the amusement park to ride rides he doesn't like. He will volunteer to hold the mountains of belongings for his kids and wife so they can enjoy their time. He simply watches as his son is marveled by things his father could explain away--but what father wants to ruin the magic for his kid? Not this one.
But he isn't just a father and a husband. He's a man. He has needs and he is hopelessly attracted to his wife and doesn't just want her... he craves her. He loves her curves and the way her body has changed over the course of the life they've built together. He has memorized every nuance that makes her uniquely his. But, he also cannot help but appreciate the other women he sees as well.
Attractions is alarmingly, refreshingly real. The ending will leave you wondering--the expertise of the author will compel you to dive right into his other works.
