A powerhouse of a headphone amplifier combined with a high-performance DAC, the Deckard drives any headphone with power to spare. The DAC has impressive specs and handles 16 to 32-bits and sampling rates from 44.1kHz to 384kHz. There’s a volume control and front-panel switches to choose gain and input so you can also use the Deckard as a great line-level preamp. The sound is exciting and dynamic with beautifully rendered tonal colors that make music come alive.

Ok, I am still deducting 1 star for quality control....but this unit is pretty impressive.
The headphone amp is POWERFUL! I am running it at mid-gain with my Fidelio X2 headphones and cannot get past 50% on volume dial without my head exploding.....granted, the X2’s are easy to drive, but coming from an Aune X1s, I am supremely impressed!
The sound is pretty fantastic too....very full sound with plenty of low end and great balanc across the board with all frequencies......
The preamp function is also fantastic and imparts some good qualities on my amplifier....mostly the same aspects as the headphone amp—-full and controlled sound with plenty of detail passed on to my amplifier.
The ONE really weird experience that was literally turning me into a lunatic was that there was a very high pitched frequency being passed from the Deckard through to my speakers....I tried everything I could think of to get rid of it and was contemplating the idea I may have to return it.....BUT, on a whim I swapped out the USB cable that was packaged with the Deckard and put my old USB cable back in and low and behold the ear splitting high frequency disappeared. I have always been skeptical of cable magic claims, but something had to be wrong with the Audeze cable......perhaps it is not shielded....who knows.....so happy I figured it out though!!
Have not turned it on yet, but something inside is totally loose and rattling. I bought this as "refurbished" by manufacturer....so I am hoping that when the technician opened it up to certify it that they just inadvertently dropped a small screw inside or something....but if they picked it up to move it they would have heard the rattle. I am obviously not going to be picking it up and shaking it once in place, but that is kinda offputting.....
I will update my review once I test it out.
