I found this a fun, creative book. No, the words and story arc are nothing noteworthy. they were made with chatGPT. and, yes, the illustrations are not consistent but again that is the flaw of the AI tool. I think the author is using his creation to spark really important conversations about AI, especially when it comes to borrowing or incorporating real things that real human artists have made.

This is what happens when AI is used to write a story with no human writer behind to guide things. This story is quite empty in terms of its story arc and content and the illustrations are poorly made/generated.

As a curious mind I like the book. It served the purpose and showed that less is more. I would have liked the story to be longer..but I guess it was meant to be just a trigger for all to see what we can do in short period of time...and how easy is to put things into consumable form. Nice.

Imagine writing a book. Imagine drawings. Congrats! You put in more effort than the "creator" of this book, who neither wrote nor drew a single piece of "content" in this pitiful excuse for a book. You could pick something up from the dollar store that would be superior in every way, and would at least be tolerable to look at.

Wonderful childrensbook written by a collaboration between the author, and an AI Technology.

It has wonderful imagery and a profound message about responsibility of using new technologies. I think the author has done nothing more than having what would be normally be considered having a ghost writer or artist support him in his development of his ideas for a children's book. I'm sure there is a great deal of concern about this new technology and will it replace writers, publishers but I doubt it.
As always new technological models offer new opportunities to learn to do things differently. People must adapt. Remember when vinyl records became cds and then they became easily downloaded on the internet. There were several artists that were upset and refused to embrace the technology and now we have the iTunes store, podcasts and YouTube.

I would have given it a 5 star rating but I felt it could have been a little more descriptive about the two characters and their adventures. I'm proud the author created this book for his family.

Overall Alice and Sparkle, will be read to my children. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Mr. Reshi's work.

I borrowed this book on Kindle since I saw a lot of people talking about AI. I’m glad the author had fun experimenting on the computer but this book is nothing but flaws.

Firstly, there is no story. We don’t see how Alice discovers the AI originally, we don’t really see how she makes her own AI, and we don’t see them getting to go on an adventure or getting to know each other. It’s very bland and the writing itself is a bit awkward and feels like it was written by someone who has never actually read a children's book before. There’s also a line saying that AI can be either good or evil which is kind of creepy, isn’t it? We don’t see how Alice trains her AI or how she keeps it from being evil we are just told that she does.

Then there’s the art. Alice and her robot look different on every page. They even look different when they’re in different panels on the same page (because sometimes the author feels the need to cram several illustrations on the same page which also looks awkward). The only thing consistent about Alice is that she has curly red (or maybe brown) hair, and a blue dress. But sometimes her face has off putting wrinkles that make her look way older than she’s supposed to be, sometimes her legs are broken and not even connected to her hip, and sometimes her hands are fused together into claw shapes. And the backgrounds are just as bad, where objects and characters fuse into each other. I honestly think children would be a bit disturbed by the illustrations. The robot also changes and never looks even remotely similar to its last incarnation. The book says it can change form, but its obvious that the AI just isn’t able to create the same character more than once so they needed a “creative” solution to the problem.

Overall the story is very boring and wouldn’t keep a child’s attention because nothing happens and the artwork is so strange and unsettling that a kid wouldn’t even want to look at it for too long. If you’re a big fan of AI then maybe you’d enjoy this for the novelty, but if you have children there are a million other books that will inspire them.

This book was short and sweet. The deeper implications of the joys, but then the dangers of AI were expressed in terms a child could understand. Good job!

3.0 out of 5 stars interesting AI illustration exercise - a not so good story
Reviewed in Spain on April 29, 2023
It is an interesting exercise in integrating AI in the production of content. But it lacks in story telling, narrative flow and meaningfulness of the illustrations to contribute to the building of the narrative, mostly, because it feels like the narrative followed the illustrations (which were subject to the output of the machine) instead of the illustrations (and text) serving the story. A baby step with this new phenomenon we will all have to integrate in our lives - AI.

1.0 out of 5 stars A novelty that's not really worth your time

I've seen some amazing stuff that was made using A.I. tools such as Midjourney and ChatGPT, with the right approach something of beauty can really emerge. This is not that. There is no arc in the storytelling, and just abruptly ends, accompanied by variations of the same few pictures. If the writer would have put any energy in it, it might have been worth the discussion. But this could just as well have been written by any old chatbot from the last 10 years. Honestly I have not seen ChatGPT (or InstructGPT) perform this poorly before. This just feels like an easy cashgrab.

Utterly dreadful writing and art. I initially couldn't figure out why it seemed so alienating and dispiriting, and why my four year old daughter was so sickened by it. Then I find out it wasn't written by anyone and it wasn't drawn by anyone, it was actually generated by an "artificial intelligence" over the course of a weekend. Very poor and sloppy stuff, this truly represents a race to the bottom for children's art.
