The AT2020 + arrives ready to go but I did incorporate a few extra thing to make my desk ready for podcasting. To do this I purchased the Spider Large Diaphram Condenser Microphone Shock Mount & Samson MB1 Mini Boom Stand. This AT2020 + looks currently comes with a pop filter as well but if you don't have one I would recommend getting one of those too.
My set up prior to this was the Blue Yeti and although it too had its moments of greatness, this mic set up completely blows doors on it. Sorry Blue Yeti...
I am again so impressed with the quality of both the sound and highly recommend it for anyone getting into podcasting, voice overs or anything else that requires outstanding audio.
Hope that helps!
Comparing iPhone recordings to this is no contest, and a huge boost to a budding voiceover artist. The sounds is clear and high quality. I love that this can plug right into my computer's USB, and you can plug headphones right into the mic.
Works just fine with garageband and audacity.
I also appreciate the nice pouch this comes with to store the cords in.
Overall very happy with this mic! I do agree with the other reviewers that the little stand this comes with is too wimpy to clamp the pop filter, and can easily tip over. I elected to purchase a sturdier desktop stand to replace it.
I've seen tons of different reviews and head-to-heads on Youtube so I had a good idea of what I was getting.
It's a very highly regarded mic and lives up to its reputation. I chose it over the over highly reputed usual culprits like the Rode NT and Blue Yeti due to its form factor. The 2020 is MUCH SHORTER on a desk versus the other two--perfect for a desk that doesn't like to be crowded.
The sound quality lived up to its name of being CRISP and clear versus the Rode's warmer sound. It picks up my voice at over 3 feet with 100% gain just great and it sounds great with my acoustic guitar.
The mic stand does the job. Just put the front leg of the stand IN FRONt as the mic is front heavy and the front leg needs to support that. If you're looking to be constantly futzing with it and are clumsy, then get a better mic stand. The same holds true with the Rode as well with its small stand.
The pop filter is from Neweer. Solid filter. I decided to get a $13 Vocalbeat windscreen instead as a dust protector (my house gets really dusty) and pop filter function. It fits just fine and doesn't impact the sound other than helping out on the p's and s's that these filters are supposed to do in any case! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZIDS2A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
From a value point of view, it's $20 cheaper than the Rode NT. Yes, the Rode comes with a pop screen, but so does this specific listing. But I would have put a windscreen on the Rode instead and removed the pop filter since my house is so dusty. Plus, like I said, the Rode and Yeti are GINORMOUS(!) compared to this thing (check the comparison vids on Youtube). So tall as to interfere with viewing my screen unless I bought a telescoping movable stand!
And the neutral clarity and crispness is great. It's easier to mess with that in post processing for whatever reason than having a warmer sounding/muddier sound mic like the Rode (though it sounds fine too, though not as crisp).
.....Another note. Since Windows 10 came out , SOME people complained on ALL BRAND MICS (including Rode, Yeti, etc) sounding less volume than Windows 7. This is a Windows 10 thing that hasn't affected me but it was there. Microsoft must have fixed the Windows 10 drivers as my mic installed immediately(!) in seconds and I was off to the races. All I did was go into "Sound Setting" and move the Gain to "100%". Done and done.
The Mic had weird black spots on it. Like paint had been like sprinkled on it randomly and inconsistently.
The pop filter is nice. Why buy the Amazon one when for the same price you get a pop filter for free.
People talk about the stand being a little flimsy. I disagree, I believe the problem is how heavy the Mic is so it's prone to tip if angled wrong. If you have problems with it I would suggest used the pop filter as a counter-weight.
Lastly, this thing is super sensitive. It can pick up anything from anywhere. I bought a mechanical keyboard with blue switches and all my friends can hear is the click of my keyboard. Even with tuning you can't eliminate it but hey, sensitivity can be seen as a good thing.
