Only problem was our narrator kept trying to just pull out the mic jack from the transmitter. Well, the mic jack is actually screwed down to the transmitter, which is a brilliant idea but not for someone used to using just a standard plug, so after a few days of yanking on the cord, she finally pulled them apart. Oh, and our sound guy forgot he had the receiver in the back pocket of his recon vest, sat down on the metro and broke off one of the antennas. Yet, after a quick replacement for the lavaliers and taping on the broken antenna, it just kept on working.
So it works well, and can take a beating, but not an extreme beat down.
I originally ordered one of these sets for use and testing. They're not great, and I've got to do some balancing on our soundboard. But they're much more functional than what we had before. And, given the price, I'm not as reticent to let facilitators take a set to an off-site presentation.
For some facilitators, we've got to use the headset, as the lapel mike just doesn't pick up well enough. But the headset really improves quality. For other presenters who are naturally louder, it's not a problem.
I've since ordered another set of these, and an Audio2000s set of wireless handhelds. They should be adequate for our needs at our next big event.
Also, many of or portable speakers have only one XLR port. An XLR "Y" cable lets us run both mikes into one speaker, and then we balance out with the adjustments on the receiver with volume controlled at the speaker. A perfect and ideal solution? Nope. But it works well for our needs.
These aren't stellar microphones, but you get more than you'd think for the price.
Had to put this down to one star. I have not gotten any response on what I can do with the system. It came with the second transmitter not working.
Got a response from the seller. It took a long time, but I sent it back and they replaced the defective part. Thanks!
Sound quality is decent, but not fantastic. Some static fuzz is always noticeable in the background, which can be an issue if you're using these in a mostly silent setting. However, if it's for an outdoor performance, then the noise is washed out by other sounds and won't be noticed. Range is excellent. I used these at a school dance performance with vocals, and they performed well up to about 50 feet away with zero issues. The lapel mics are solid as are the headsets, and the battery life is also quite good. No lag when recording with video.
This wouldn't be my first choice for a real professional kit that is intended for high quality video recording, but in any other situation they are completely up to the task. I've recorded skits in the street, used them for performances and presentations, and was always satisfied.
