My container, from Lot dated Sept 2022 (acquired 10/22), is very securely sealed. So much so, that I don't want to open it. I bought it to have if/when I need it. I have plenty of rice that I will use up first. I bought this specifically knowing that it should still be good 7 years from now. Brown rice does not have as long as of a shelf life due to its natural oils and such, so I simply don't add it to my long-term pantry supplies. But when I saw an emergency packed container at a reasonable price, I more or less made an impulse purchase. It was similar price or less than other regular stuff I'd buy off the shelf, and I don't need to pack it special for long term storage. This is done for me.
Since I did not open it, I cannot say if there are any bugs. I prefer not to have them, but in reality, I really don't care. There are always (always, always) bug eggs in grains, flours, and pasta (etc). Always. Sorry to say. Freezing will kill the eggs to keep them from hatching into bugs, but don't ever think that you don't eat bugs. Ya do. So, if there ends up being bugs, I will likely just pick them out. Or not. If this is opened when all else has dwindled away, the bugs will provide added protein. I'm not kidding. So, consider it a bonus feature?
