The keypad reliability is terrible. We run an AirBnB from 800 miles away. Every customer has had problems using the lock one or more times. The single area where we drop from 5-star reviews is over this keypad. The key presses are very tricky to do. Too fast and it doesn't work, too slow and it doesn't work. There is also a noticeable 3-5 second lag before the lock responds. If you try to open your door before the lock responds, the door won't unlock. Battery life is horrible. We recently had a complaint about the lock and saw battery life was "medium". We decided to have them switch out the batteries (not good that you have to ask the guest to do this). They used the lock for 1 day and checked out. 5 days later, I got an alert that the battery is low when the next guest just arrived the afternoon before. The keypad was unused for 5 days and brand new Duracell batteries drop far enough to generate a low alert???? Also, the logs from the lock are lacking with respect to the keypad. My phone got an alert that the keypad battery is low, but the alert doesn't show up in the logs, and when I just looked at the battery status, it says "medium"... Hmmmmm... Logs also don't show keypad activity unless you push the August lock key at the bottom. That's a problem when you try to diagnose why someone has problems because they didn't press the August lock key. Was it a keypad failure, or a user error?? You can't tell. Finally, you can't change keypad settings remotely. I tried to turn on battery saver but it requires you to connect to the lock with Bluetooth. Tough to do is you can't be physically present... You get to make a special plane trip to reconfigure a $50 keypad that doesn't work.
August really needs to figure this out. I don't know why they didn't learn from Ring who uses your doorbell power to charge a lithium battery. That would give them ample power to use a stoner wireless signal. It may also email then to design a keypad with adesign point of speed and reliable communication without tradeoffs to maximize battery life.
