Editorial Reviews

Review

"Filled with steamy sensual scenes, emotional, touching moments, and even some unexpected humor, this book is a must-read. This is not just a story about infidelity; it's so much more than that. It's a beautiful story about living life, taking chances, making choices, following your heart, and it's ultimately about love. Goulden has an amazing talent for storytelling and for bringing characters to life. The plot was perfectly paced; the relationship, friendship, and sexual tension between Monica and Quinn were realistic and gradually grew over the course of a month. I was so completely immersed in this book that I stayed up all night until six in the morning because I just had to finish it. After wiping the tears off my face, and in an attempt to get over the devastation of coming to the end of one of my new favorite books, I had to Google this fantastic author to see if she had written anything else. To say that I was ecstatic to discover that this was the first book in a trilogy would be an understatement. I will be counting down the days, hours, and minutes until the next book comes out. A.L. Goulden may have just written my all-time favorite series." -Cheryl Schopen for Readers' Favorite

Loved the emotional commitment of this book. I cried, I laughed a few times and I truely felt for all three characters. I loved that we were able to see into each of these lead characters minds, exposing us to all personal perspectives. It's amazing how sympathetic and empathetic I felt towards them all! -- The Readers Cafe

From the Author

I'm a designer, author, wife and dog-lover living in the South Pasadena area of California. I got my BFA in Film Production from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, but my love of a good story came way before college. I remember writing my first full story in fifth grade on a typewriter. I cut and pasted it into a book, complete with cardboard cover and taped binding. Things have changed a lot since then. With the magnificent digital age I can produce books and give them to the world without a sticky mess.

August Fog is a fun, contemporary read that starts with a bang! Monica is like your average high-powered female. She's married to the "love of her life", but is she really happy or just sustaining? Enter Quinn, a hot neighbor that she can't seem to keep her eyes off of.

I really enjoyed the build up to this book. It's not rushed at all, and it feels completely right. The author puts us right into the heart of it all as Monica treads into treacherous waters as a woman that has been neglected seriously by her husband. Quinn is a decadent delight that would be hard for any woman not to notice.

The ending surprised me, but not in a bad way. I love how Ms. Goulden keeps the book unpredictable. This is not your average erotic romance read. There's a level of realism in it that will grab at you and keep you interested in the whole story line. I'm intrigued to see where she goes with it in the next book.

I'm so book hungover it's unreal! Just when I think one book couldn't top another, Goulden throws us into August Fog. Sexy, romantic, refreshing, deep, sad, emotional... I don't have enough words to describe this AMAZING read!
Many can't handle the topic of infidelity. But, Goulden delivered it in a way that will knock you off your feet. I'm so in LOVE with this book, this story, this genius writer, and the characters of Alex, Monica, & Quinn and I freaking loved the best friend Robin. (Who p.s.-I bet could steal the show in her own book)
Jumping into December Rain now, because I can't go another minute without knowing what happens with them all.
Bravo A.L. Goulden

Spoilers.. I was not into this book. The writing was good but I just couldn't get over the cheating. Then it felt like she was cheating on both of them by the middle. Most of all I hate that she ended up with Alex..

4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Another brand new author discovered. A promising author that I believe will have many more stories ahead of her!

August Fog by A.L. Goulden can be classified as a new adult romance due to the angst driven story line, but also borderline erotica with some amazing sexual/sensual scenes. The story revolves around three individuals and straddles a fine line of morals and love. This story touched my heart, and made me shake my head at times as well. As I am an emotional reader I really appreciated the ups and downs that this story made me feel.

Monica Waters is living a fairly predictable life. She know what her days will be filled with. She is married to Alex, content in routine, bound to him through years of marriage, and a few hiccups along the way that many marriages go through. She loves Alex, he is her best friend. When Quinn moves in next door however, Monica is instantly smitten, drawn and ultimately connected with him. A friendship blooms through mutual passions and before they know it, a can of worms had been opened.

While infidelity is a serious topic in this book (I have a hard time with infidelity in book believe me) I have to say that there is so much here than blatant cheating. Monica loves her husband Alex, truely loves him, but she has met her soul mate in Quinn, and he reignites passions for life (not just sex) and begins to make her look deeply at the life she shares with Alex. Soon she is struggling! Alex hasn't always been perfect either but two wrongs do not make a right!

Loved the emotional commitment of this book. I cried, I laughed a few times and I truely felt for all three characters.

It's not like this book has an innovative or original storyline but it is enjoyable. The story reminds me of the saying, "old wine in new bottle". I've seen this in lots of movies and read this in lots of novels; only the names of the characters were different. The ending especially resembles the endings of average Indian films that addresses the issue of adultery (only they don't have this much of sensual scenes, they prefer to go under the blankets before having sex, or the light is turned of or the camera takes a strategical position to avoid censor problems :P). Still I rated this book 4 stars because it is fun to read. With all the stupid theories and ideas of Alex and the sensual games at places between the lead characters, this book is something the reader can enjoy. The style of writing is good and easy. The pace is just perfect, not too fast neither too slow. It carries the reader through the book. Also, the characters are well built-up and convincing. All together, it's a light read for any common reader to enjoy!

It's the story of Monica Wilson (as stated at the very beginning of the novel. The 2nd line), not Monica Waters. The Description needs to be corrected.

AUGUST FOG zeroes in on core human values and emotions: love, marriage, dreams, fantasy, lust, sex, commitment, betrayal, echoes of the past, and hopes for the future. Which way should she turn? Stay with her husband or move forward, in an entirely new direction, with the neighbor she simply cannot get out of her mind? What really makes this book intriguing is the fact that the reader is allowed into the mind of all three major characters. This enables us as readers to clearly observe the confused states of these three people, to see the tortured thoughts and fears they have as the rational side of the brain comes into conflict with the sensual, and as voyeurism collides with reality, where living dangerously becomes the norm, where feelings of sexual excitement slowly evolve into real “crossing the line” events that somehow need to be addressed somewhere down the line.

This sexy, adult romance has all the ingredients needed to make it a real page turner - with people whose emotions, feelings, and needs make them seem real to life. This definitely is a good read.
