How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I have to disclose that I know the author. I enjoyed reading the book. It is refreshingly short and full of surprises and twists. It is a delight also that despite the complexity and twists of the action, the writing is extremely clear. This must have been not easy to write as some of the events are from the past, interwoven into the action (which mostly takes place in Venice). Ackeret knows how to connect things which are in any others mind far apart like the former first lady Melanie with the burning Notre Dame in Paris, all connected by Venzini. A reader who does not know Ackeret nor his relation with Walser must be told that Ackeret himself appears in the book as the bad guy Beat Pestalozzi who lures Venzini to Venice for revenge.
