I love this mat.
First of all, I got this in the "Wooded Pine" option. Colors have a little more "pop" than what I thought- which I don't mind. Love the design. The texture of the mat was a little slick, which is typical when exercising, so I used the cute little powder pouch (that was sent compliments of Aurorae) and that was easily resolved. I also want to throw in that I do use grippy gloves and bodyglove shoes whenever doing a less strenuous workout.
Maybe its my lack of being a complete yogi, but I'm satisfied with the thickness of this. I actually like the material, while some were unhappy about the "memory foamy" feel, I found it to be a good thing when doing jumps and cobra-pushup type moves.
I'm somewhere around 5'3" so the length is more than enough. I have hardwood floors and have not had a problem with it sliding around, and I haven't been taking it easy on the mat. (I use dailyburn--curently "Inferno"-if anyone else does this will indicate the level of activity)
So here is my final opinion-
If you are a 6ft + yogi that has specific needs, this might not be the mat for you.
If you are integrating yoga with pylo, cardio, weight work, or any thing like that, I highly recommend this mat.
I love the color, bought the evergreen toned "wilderness" mat. I also purchased the Aurorae slip free yoga mat towel in a complimentary colored green (camarone green).
I used it right away and it was a bit slippery. Then I took a moment to read the directions (duh!) and washed it. It was very easy to break it in and now the mat has a nice level of stickiness.
It's gross to admit but my palms and soles of my feet get really sweaty. In my case, For easy going yoga the mat itself is fine. For a more challenging workout I use the mat towel and have no trouble whatsoever.
It comes with a powder for your hands and we are both using it - very very useful.
I bought Midnight Moon printed mat and colors are exactly as on a picture. Very pretty mat.
Quality seems good and it's still in perfect shape after a dozen sessions.
Zhould last me a while.
Might even get one to use as a shooting mat, or camping mat. Lol
The day of delivery, I received a friendly email from the company sharing some tips for care. I thought that was a great touch and exemplary of top-notch customer service.
I had no problems with slippage initially right out of the box, but I did notice my hands (not feet) slipping a bit during my second use. I'd bet it's due to natural oils on my hands, not any fault of the mat. I'm going to try washing it as directed in the email and trying to remember to wash my hands thoroughly before starting practice. I'm also having a hard time getting the ends to lie flat after shipping rolled, so hopefully the wash takes care of that too. I'll try to update here with results.
My only "con" is that I had a band-aid on one of my feet yesterday, and the adhesive seems to have peeled up a bit of the mat with it, probably as I was twisting my foot to get into a warrior pose. That's a bummer, so I will have to be more careful in the future.
