I purchased this cage knowing it was designed for the GH3 but i have a canon T3i. After comparing the cameras i recalled that the bodies were not much different. I received the cage and inserted my T3i, i noted two things, the T3i is taller and at a glance would not be compatible with the hotshoe mount... after removing one of the two rubber gaskets the mount fit perfectly and the added support REALLY DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE! The cage also has two removable pins that stop the camera from spinning, the canon is too thick for these pins and without removing them the canon will sit at an angle and most likely wont line up with any mattebox you have. The last and BIGGEST difference is that this cage has extremely useful gaps for the battery door, and the SD card, LUCKILY the T3i and the GH3 have both of those doors IN THE SAME PLACE... almost. No infact while they are in similar places you cannot open the battery door at all. This was so frustrating because every time tye battery died i had to remove the entire camera from the cage... UNTIL
With a hand held drimmel i ground down the aluminum that was blocking the battery door and now it works perfectly!
Was all this work worth it? Comparing the price to other cages making this sub-300$ cage bend to my will was WELL WORTH the added elbow grese, and i highly recomend it to other T3i users!
I will add that i am sure sanding down the cage even as minimally as is required lessesns the strength and yadda yadda yadda, but seing as how the cage comes with no guarantee or waranty i think your safe.
First, the left vertical side needs to allow the camera's tilt and swivel screen to tilt when extended. It allows for only several degrees of tilt.
The second and more irritating issue is that the mounting holes on top are offset on either side of the cold shoe adapter; they do not line up. So attaching an accessory like a nato rail is not user friendly. I managed to do it by removing the cage's top screw and placing the rail across it.
The cage has cut away areas that allow access to the battery door and media card, so you don't have to remove the camera from the cage to replace these items. The media card door on the GH3 is notorious for popping open, so the cage adds a bit of protection. There is a cut away to allow access to the side ports for mic, headphone and hdmi cables, but it gets cramped once you add any cables. The same cut away area provides some tilting of the GH3's OLED, but it does restrict it somewhat. I wish this cut away area was more spacious, to provide more room for cables and full tilt range of the OLED. A product like this should add to the functionality of a camera, not restrict it.
There is room to access all the GH3's controls, but some controls are obscured a bit and can be awkward to get to. I typically don't need frequent access to these controls when shooting video, but it can slow down making fast adjustments when shooting stills.
The cage has a lot of threaded holes (1/4" and 3/8") and 3 cold shoe mounting points. The holes on the sides of the cage are 1/4" only. Although some cameras seem to support large hot shoe mounted flash units, the cold shoe mount points on the GH3 cage are a much safer alternative for heavier items (lights, microphones, monitors, top handles). - Battery, SD card and ports are all unobstructed.
- HDMI locking clamp is great for protecting delicate micro HDMI port.
- The tight fit makes it awkward to use the buttons on the top of the camera and see the top dial.

Absolutely terrible product. Looks terrible. Pin can't reach camera. The metal is terrible. Threads can't hold weight. Metal is cheap. Overpriced. Read morePublished 15 months ago by Jeremy Herron

To say its intended for the A7s as well is misleading. I bought it for my A7s primarily because I liked the idea of a secure mount from both the top and the bottom. Read morePublished 22 months ago by T Nails
This is a good cage only if you are solely doing video because the cage does not leave enough room at the top for the flash to pop up on the GH3 or GH4. Read morePublished on June 20, 2014 by Edward
