However: BEWARE OF THE SIZE CHARTS -- what the chart calls "neck size" is the actual size of the opening.
This is the same opening through which the head must pass. Basically, you need to measure the dog's head diameter and look THAT up in the chart's "neck size" column to choose the right harness size.
So today, Father's Day, my sisters and I gave him this harness to put on her, and a Flexi retractable leash (Flexi Explore Soft Grip Retractable Cord Dog Leash, small, 26-feet long). We were worried the harness wouldn't fit or--more importantly--that it would be difficult to get on her, or be so uncomfortable she wouldn't like it. But amazingly, it was a HUGE HIT! Dad was able to put it on her in about two seconds (seriously, all you do is put it over your pet's head, then bring the straps up behind the front legs and snap them around the back). At first it looked like it might be a bit large (we got the medium dog size) and she might be able to slip out of it, but then we realized: Hey--it's adjustable!
So right now Dad is outside with Sheba, relaxing with a cup of coffee while she digs in the dirt and rolls around in the shrubs, and he doesn't have to worry about losing her or running after her. Btw, we also got a 20-foot extension he can add to the leash to give her more room to roam, but it won't arrive till tomorrow... Anyway, the harness/leash combo not only works incredibly well, it really fills a need. We couldn't be happier!
I have a 50 pound golden retriever and ordered an XL. Never in my life would I think my rut of the litter golden would require a size XL in anything! :) I DID put it on her to see if it fits. I had to expand the band as far as it would go. The clasp is very difficult to squeeze open. I am hoping it might loosen up just a bit as used, obviously not too much because I don't want it to open unexpectedly. I haven't used it yet. I will update my post once we use it for a walk. One of my concerns is that it might rub under her legs and cause sores. I will keep all updated!
and it was a perfect fit. It seemed comfortable for him and looked really good. It was easy to put on but getting it off is a huge problem.
I cannot get the little clasp open. I had my husband try and he couldn't do it either. We have to take it off using a plier. I could see that
it might be a problem for me but but my husband should be able to do it.
We took him for his first vet visit since we adopted him. Forgot to bring the pliers and vet had to find something to release the clasp. I
have been reading the reviews and don't see this mentioned in any of them. I'm wondering if this could be a defect in this particular
