- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2016Not only does the text provide good information in a simple and easy to understand way- Dr. Durand keeps this book short, sweet, and to the point. I am impressed by his teaching style as a professor and am blown away by the quality of this text. It gave very good insight to his lectures without overwhelming the reader with jargon, unnecessary fluff or too many pages. Not only that but it present the information in an interesting manner and doesn't leave you confused or bored mid way through. For once, I actually looked forward to reading the text before listening to lectures. The book is small, and at roughly 200 pages it was a breeze to read and a breath of fresh air compared to other text I've read. I'm normally very overwhelmed by textbooks because professors normally expect you to read an unreasonable amount of text to supplement lectures. This book gave just enough information to go into Dr. Durand's lectures prepared but not overly exhausted. I feel this is how it should be. After both the lectures and the text- I felt well prepared for exams and found myself going the extra mile to explore subtopics I found interesting- which is not something I can normally do because I am normally overwhelmed with coursework, text book readings and lectures in classes.
The only thing I would recommend is maybe bolding important key terms so that they are easier to located when referencing the text.
Apart from that suggestion- Bravo, Dr. Durand! I applaud your work. You have really peaked this student's interest! I look forward to learning more.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2017This is a wonderful starter guide to help gain information about ASD and other important information that relates to the spectrum. I love this book and highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2018This clinical guide is excellent for me as a student NP who is focusing on autism as a doctoral project topic. It has all the pertinent information both background and current, has mostly up-to-date screening and diagnosis information (slightly newer information exists for adult autism screening), and is well-written and organized. I hope an updated version is published soon - if so, I would purchase as a provider.
