Editorial Reviews
Review
Compelling and controversial. You know that saying about truth being stranger than fiction? This is that truth, I couldn’t put it down.”Sharyl Attkisson, investigative journalist for CBS News
About the Author
Louis Conte is a law enforcement officer and independent investigator with the Westchester County (NY) Department of Probation. As a leading advocate for people with autism, he has championed their cause in state capitols and Washington, DC. He was the lead investigator for and coauthor of a seminal paper on the autism-vaccine controversy, Unanswered Questions from the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program: A Review of Compensated Cases of Vaccine-Induced Brain Injury,” in the Pace Environmental Law Review , which found that the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program compensated many children with autism for vaccine-induced brain damage while declaring no link between vaccines and autism. Conte lives in Pleasantville, New York, with his wife, Andrea, and their three sons, Thomas, Sam, and Louie.

Well, this book was one I was looking forward to reading. The title led me to believe it was non fiction, but once I realized it was a novel I could see it was based on the author's real life thoughts and perhaps experiences. It's written on an elementary level with simple phrasing and easy to read chapters. I do believe there is an autism vaccine link and this book compounds that fear. I'm afraid that writing a novel about it only makes the "cautionary vaccinators" seem like radical zealots.

To see the lives and stories of my family and that of so many friends who have had an autistic child, interwoven with a compelling explanation of how and why this happened made me feel hopeful, understood, and less isolated for the first time in years. The story has many allusions to news events that will ring true to those of us who have lived the daily frustration and disillusionment of a terrible unnecessary tragedy, the pain of seeing those we relied on for the truth insulting us rather than even beginning to listen to our stories. The way to cope is to celebrate and emulate our Heros and conte is now one of them

This book arrived three days before a big party I was hosting at my home. Needless to say, I had a ton of work to do in preparation. But I picked up this book and decided to read a few pages the evening it arrived. And it reeled me in! I literally could not put it down! I am an avid reader - I ALWAYS have a book by my chair, so it isn't often that I find one that I just can't put down. But this was it. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. The plot and characters were eerily familiar, yet I still couldn't wait to read more. Some parts will make you angry, some will have you cheering. But you will be hooked and read it cover to cover!
I will definitely be recommending this one to my friends.

I enjoyed this book on two levels, the well done twists and turns of a good story -- and the added entertainment of attempting to figure the real names of the big cast of characters. A great read!

It has the excitement of a Grishan novel, it also has a lot of information that the public should know.

Truth is often stranger than fiction but sometimes it's fun to read something that has that "ripped from the headlines" flavor and try to match characters with their real life counterparts. Lou Conte takes us on a breakneck journey through a narrative that is stunningly close to real events and paints a scenario for a hopeful outcome that any autism parent would wish for. Touching all the right notes and painting a true-to-life, heart-wrenching and compassionate portrait of family life with autism, Lou's novel weaves together a classic thriller's format with a trenchant critique of the moral collapse of the medical-industrial complex. Buy this book, read it (won't take long!!) and share it with friends and family. Highly recommended!

Police Squad! goes anti-vaxx
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 3, 2014Verified Purchase
This painfully written collection of stereotypes and prejudices - an evil English toff and his slug like lackey, a Mr Miyagi dribbling pearls of Eastern 'wisdom', grateful and hardworking immigrants cruelly betrayed and police procedural dialogue laden with enough cliches and non sequiturs to make Frank Drebin blush.
And of course autistic kids. Loads of autistic kids - sorry vaccine damaged zombies - drooling, moaning, lumbering about shooting their parents, filling up juvenile detention centres and generally being a curse on humanity. Nice.
The characterisation is an embarrassment. All public health workers are shown as drunken, corrupt loners and oddballs (although in a quaint touch The Evil Englishman's lackey guzzles gin like Bill Sykes) All the anti-vaxx crowd are portrayed as saintly, from 'good cop' Tony, to the aforementioned honest Georgian asylum seekers via a spunky lawyer gal.
Of course the ending is desperate and predictable, it turns out [spoiler alert] vaccines do cause autism, it's just the Russia Mafia have been hired by the NHS and CDC to destroy all the evidence. The only data that shows vaccines are safe is produced by a twisted, drunken loner scientist and kids are saved forever from the scourge of vaccines.

Auitsm/Encephalopathy/Vaccine truth
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 19, 2014Verified Purchase
Louis Conte writes a fictional account about his actual research into what can be most aptly described as the true nature and depth of the global political, financial and social truth behind the current autism pandemic. It leads us into an unsavoury world of corrupt pharmaceutical company CEO's and the true extent of the public relations machine and the media manipulation of the true nature of the link between autism/vaccine induced encephalopathy. A must read for anyone interested in learning more about the many causes of autism.
