The second, more annoying blunder was that there were sharp edges left on the plastic. Here I had to use a razor to cut off and scrape down the edge so it wouldn't be sharp. Again, this isn't a very difficult thing to do, but I felt like they should have been trimmed and smoothed before they were packaged up. Had I not noticed this, my child may have cut his fingers on the sharp edge. At the least, it would have caught and cut the sponge I use to wash my van.
Now onto the good things about this product. The plastic they use is of good quality. I've installed super cheap-o name brand knock-offs before and these are far better. The adhesive tape used also seems to be of good quality. With proper cleaning and taking the time to press them hard into place a few times the window vents held very well onto the vehicle. The form of the shades themselves are also very good. I had no problem with positioning and they look nice and even on the van.
I installed this set onto a 2016 Toyota Sienna. One tip I have for folks when installing the front vents is to loosen up the mirror. To do this, go to the inside of the door and pull the plastic trim cover on the opposite side of the mirror. Start at the top and it will pop off easily. Now the fasteners for the mirror can be seen. I loosened the top two fasteners, both 10mm. After they were loose, it was super easy to flex the outside of the mirror and slip the vent shade under the edge. No prying needed, I just used my fingers to create an opening. Once fully installed, snug up the two 10mm fasteners and re-install the inside trim cover, being careful to place the bottom edge of the trim cover tucked into place of the door panel. Super easy.
All in all, these are good quality vent shades. I just wish a little more time was taken to eliminate the sharp edges and properly trim the tape. Had these things been addressed, a five star rating would be earned.
They all fit good, look great! They use double sided automotive grade 3M tape, just clean off the metal with supplied alcohol, peel ends back 2 inches on each end of the visors, align them till you get exactly where you want them and press into place then peel off existing tape and smooth them out with a clean soft cloth. It's fast n easy! Watch the install video in the description area or YouTube for pointers.
My Son Shawn installed them, said it took about 5-10 minutes.
Shawn's the MAN!!!
Item 1 On the Amazon Product Description, it says " completely safe for car washes too!". Manufactureres statement: "The Original Ventvisor is car wash safe". On the face of the blister card the product comes in, it prominently says " carwash safe". BUT, after it arrives, and you open the package, on the AVS Installation Instructions the very first thing you see is "Important Safety Information" "Do not use automatic "brush style" car washes". That is a long way from "completely safe for car washes".
Item 2 Manufacturers statement: "Mount the Original Ventvisor to the outside of the vehicle using pre-applied 3M mounting tape." On the AVS Installation Instructions, it tells you to use a putty knife to pry the car's side view mirror cap out far enough to force the front flange of the visor behind it. Any damage is on you.
Item 3 The dealer told me that use of a foreign substance voids the paint warranty.
I hope long lasting.......and keep it cooler the van in the summer time.
I left yesterday little open the windows, and the rain (not heavy) not affected.....
An install tip: Be sure to wipe/clean the window molding you will stick these to thoroughly with isopropyl alchohol wipes. Wipe them until they start coming out clean, and free of dirt+old rubber. Then, make sure you position and stick exactly the way you want them -- I believe the adhesive material may be made by Gorilla Glue, and they adhere extremely strongly. I highly doubt that removal will be possible without damaging the visors and/or the window molding.
Or put it over the plastic and leave a slight gap between the body and elastic tape.
Or stick the tab under the plastic and let the mirror slightly pop up which water may penetrate behind.
For rear part, edge is bent to accommodate the shape of body and molding and it fit very well.
I will look for different visor.
