I made a mistake in buying this book. I did not notice the "literature guide" part. I was looking for the main book, which I first read in 1978. So the error was mine, I believe.

I was hoping that this book would contain the Alex Haley classic. Dissapointingly, this book only provides commentary, which while interesting, is nothing when compared to the original masterpiece. Out of the millions of books available in the Kindle Store, why isn't "The Autobiography of Malcom X" for sale?

it was not clear to me upfront: this book is not the acutal autobiography. These are the notes for the book. they summarize chapters and importance of them. so if you want to read the actual book, do not purchase this one.

I didn't read the description of this book properly. I didn't realise I was buying the "Notes" and not the book and the notes. My fault, should've paid attention to the description. Had the actual book before but can't find it so I'll have to buy it again.

This notes version of the book has been the ideal tool for helping a grammar school student I am tutoring learn more about African American history and a truly iconic human being while also helping him learn to read.

The short summaries, samples analyses and questions have allowed him to learn in a very proactive, engaging environment. He's not intimidated and looks forward to every weekly session.

And I am enjoying it at the same time.

A great read for both of us.

In a modern 21st Century reading of The Autobiography of Malcolm X one thing becomes apparent: he was a potentially great person. He was cut down in life before he had truly bloomed. He had gone from such depths in his life to ever increasing levels of enlightenment and sophistication. He was just about to make that net leap in his life away from the Nation of Islam and you know looking at his upward trajectory it was only to be but one stop in a continuing growth of an amazing man.
To many of us his legacy is now this book, but what a legacy. If this book tells you nothing else but you can fall extremely low in your life but it will never be so low that you cannot redeem yourself.

As it's stated purpose, This book provides a very good overview of Malcom X's life and offers many other sources for continuing research which is warranted in Malcom's case. He was a very complex man who suffered greatly and was widely misunderstood due to some of his statements. Statements some could not or would not overlook. Statements that cost him his life before his work was finished. Ultimately, I don't think the max notes are enough ( unless your term paper is due tomorrow;)). Malcom X deserves the long version which is next!
