Few spiritual figures have touched as many readers in the past century as Saint Therese of Lisieux, the saint popularly known as the Little Flower. Though she was only twenty-four years old when she died, her writings have had tremendous impact, making her one of the most popular spiritual writers in the twentieth century. Her autobiography, The Story of a Soul, has been a source of priceless inspiration ever since it was written, and has become the great spiritual bestseller of our time. A hundred years after her death in 1897, millions of copies have spread throughout the world and it has been translated into more than fifty languages.

The reason for the continued success of her autobiography is, quite simply, that it is unlike any work of devotion and spiritual insight ever written. Once it is read, it cannot be forgotten. Its appeal across cultures and generations has been extensive, moving both peasants and popes, men and women, young and old—people of every kind of intelligence and education succumb to its spell. Yet is not a conventional work of religious devotion; instead, it is in many ways a supernatural book. In the words of Pope Pius XI, Saint Therese "attained the knowledge of supernatural things in such abundant measure that she was able to point out the sure way of salvation to others," and it is especially in
The Story of a Soul that she has pointed out this sure way to the generations that have followed her. As Therese herself said of this book just prior to her death, "What I have written will do a lot of good. It will make the kindness of God better known."

The Story of a Soul is nothing less than a spiritual thrill ride. This book has the potential to simply change your entire outlook on spiritual things. If your life is suffering from spiritual dryness, then this would be a great book to read. St. Therese is a proper role model for any person to have. All should aspire to be like her as much as possible. The Story of a Soul is an inspiring story of a great saint, a great saint who didn't became a great saint by great deeds; but by small deeds with great love.

For me personally, I feel like this book changed the direction of my entire life in many regards. It really left an imprint on my own soul. The testimony of St. Therese is very powerful, and this book is very challenging. Many parts of the book may even be a little scary, as Therese's passion for Jesus and his love is so intense. Therese, and Jesus through her, are calling all of us to walk this little way of Love. To offer up our lives as victims of the ecstasy of Divine Love.

    I recommend this to everyone.

What an amazing and admirable life St. Therese lead. This book is a must read for every Catholic. It is the kind of book you want to read every couple of years to keep our faith strong. I even bought a copy for my niece who graduated high school and will be going away to college. Her love of the Eucharist makes me wish I would have read it before my daughter's first holy Communion.

Not only do I love the book, but moreover, I love St. Therese. I am not a confirmed Catholic. I did not have any regard or verifiable evidence or experience regarding the "departed", whether declared saints or otherwise. But as Jesus Christ is real, alive, and present, I was led to this dear person name St. Therese of Lisieux. I downloaded this book on my Kindle. In addition, I have purchased hard copies of it, too. There was a severe crises in my life at this time, lightened and lifted upon reading this book. The Lord knows, and let anyone else who reads this review know, that St Therese is my 'patron saint'. This concept of a 'patron saint' never entered my mind before. But experience beyond what one can imagine, ask, or think can happen and it happened to me.

This is a great edition is a great series. The Beevers introduction is quite nice as well. Saint Therese has some interesting things to say, but also some kind of bizarre things. She is not someone I would point to as a theological sound through-and-through defender of the faith, but she does offer some great insight into the spiritual life.

I have read this book more than once. I am sharing it with my Sunday School class from now to the end of the year. It is a window into a soul from a very young age to womanhood. The faith witness is so powerful! The "Little Flower" the "Little Soul" and the "Little Way" are all revealed and the reader can experience the development of her faith. She shows us that a common ordinary person can serve God tremendously. It is a very touching story of Love and I am so glad a friend put it in my hand a year ago.

Honestly, this autobiography seemed rather saccharine to me the first time I read it, many years ago. But a friend insisted I read it a second time, and I found the POWER in this unknown little Carmelite nun hidden away in Lisieux, France. Her trusting childlike path to a personal relationship with God seemed simple enough for anyone, including me. I highly recommend the book of St. Therese's life to anyone who wants a deep love of God, and is wise enough to look for it in the little things of every day. Few books have touched my life more. Every few years I go back and drink from the fountain again, and I am never disappointed.

My wife read this book years ago when in times of difficulty, and then just now on her new Kindle Fire HD she got for Christmas. It has changed her for the better. I loved the first couple chapters but I'm a really slow reader so she's way ahead of me.

An outstanding souce of spirituality teaching, meant for any christian seeking a deeper knowledge and understanding of their relationship with God.
St. Therese kept this diary at the instruction of her superiors, and in it outlines her "little way' to spiritual happiness. Briefly, her "little way" is doing small things with great love to please Jesus.
This will be my fourth reading!

Undoubtedly one of the greatest saints ever. Don't believe me? Try praying to her. She makes herself known by ensuring you receive roses shortly after you pray fervently to her for her help and intercession. I have lost count at the number of times she has done this for me and those close to me.
