Get this record. It's like a transplanted greatest hits record of some early 1970s band/singer, only with the lyrical savvy and self-revelation more typical of contemporary artists. Lovely vocals, interesting instrumentation, catchy tunes, and meaningful lyrics. This is hummable music with heart and wisdom. What more could you ask for?

What an odd experience - I discovered Jenny O. from a music video game of all places, fell in love with the track "Well Okay Honey" built on a playful and simple groove with great vocal. Enjoyed the heck out of the "Home" EP which you need to go check out right now. A short but intimate taste of what this girl is capable of - her voice draws you in as you float through her world. Needless to say, her first studio release became my most anticipated album for a long time; it was obvious it would be special when it hit the shelves and I wanted to hear where her style would go.

When "Automechanic" hit the scene, I was already hooked as the album cast it's spell. This is a beautifully crafted album (as is her EP). Enough so that I was compelled to invest in a turntable and buy the album a *second time* to soak in the experience of hearing it on vinyl. The romantic quality of this retro-sounding masterpiece deserves to be heard beginning-to-end. Jenny O. displays a musical and lyrical craft beyond her years - consider me sold!

The first time I listened through, I was sure enough to buy it. By the 3rd, it's some of my favorite go to day to day music to listen to. Jenny is an inspired song writer, with a wonderful voice that ranges from angelic to a more feminine Pat Benatar gravel.

I bought this for one song that I kept hearing on my local NPR station. I am surprised by how much I like the entire CD. She doesn't quite sound like anybody else, but I bet I could guess her influences. I hear some familiar, but fresh hooks throughout.

Songwriters as brilliant as Jenny O. are rare. But not *that* rare. What's truly rare about Automechanic is how solid it is. There's not a mediocre track on this album. A lot of young geniuses can't seem to tell their best work from their middling, but to make a record like this Jenny O. must be as good a self-critic as she is a songwriter. I suspect that's crucial for a lasting career. I expect to be looking forward to her latest album 40 years from now.

Some people will have trouble with Jenny O's voice & vocal style (or maybe even hate it, if they hate the voices of Mary Hopkin or Victoria Williams, for example), but there are some good tunes here. The best one is "Good Love", but the title cut & some others are good, too. One thing to note is that I liked this album much more after a few listenings than I did on the first go. [And I concur with "Dan in SE Tennessee"; he pretty much nailed it. I suspect the 'one song' was Good Love]

In a perfect world, Haim would be opening for this enchanting singer and songwriter. With the help of master-producer Jonathan Wilson, she has crafted a richly detailed set of songs, many with a touching vulnerability beneath their road-hardened swagger. More thoughts here: [...]
