About Car Headlights
Headlights – or headlamps – not only improve your view of the road, they make it much easier for other drivers to see your vehicle. Amazon.com sells a wide variety of sealed beam headlights and halogen headlamp bulbs. Sealed-beam headlights, which are rectangular or round and incorporate a bulb inside of the sealed headlight, were required on all U.S. vehicles until 1983, when replaceable-bulb headlamps became available. However, sealed beam headlights are still used on some vehicles. Many vehicles with sealed beam headlights have one on each side for low beams and a second for high beams. Some experts recommend replacing all headlights when the first failure occurs, particularly if the vehicle is more than a few years old and still has original equipment headlights.
Replaceable halogen headlamp bulbs are used in most modern headlight systems. Some systems use one multifunction bulb that can be switched from high beam to low beam on each side of the car. Other headlight systems use two single-function halogen bulbs on each side. The most powerful headlights available today are high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamp systems. Amazon.com sells kits that allow the retrofitting of HID Xenon headlamps to some vehicles that were not originally equipped with this powerful type of headlight, as well as replacement parts for vehicles that have standard-equipment HID headlamps.
