Unexpected single dad

Nate learns he’s a father when Lexi, the girl he had a Spring Break fling with, shows up dying and needing him to watch Autumn. At Christmas, her Aunt Penny will come and get her. Maxine is the librarian at the Silver Valley Library. Max’s mom is always on her about doing better, how she dresses, dating, etc. Max and Nate come up with the plan to solve both their problems. Max will move in with Nate and help him out with Autumn and that will get her mom off her case. I’m not going to leave any spoilers, but if you love small town romances, you will enjoy this. Single dads are one of my favorites to read and I wasn’t disappointed with Autumn Allure.

Pine Point love!

This is by far my favorite of the Pine Point novels. And I loved the other stories, this one is just that great. Nate is a bartender, getting by, having fun, not ready for a commitment. The story opens with him finding out he fathered a child four years ago. He is overwhelmed of course, but then is forced to take custody of Autumn almost immediately due to devastating circumstances. He is completely lost as is poor little Autumn. Struggling to find something that will make his daughter happy, he brings her to the children's library and meets Miss Max. Maxine is great at her job, and totally living in her larger-than-life mother's shadow. The situation brings these two together but it was a long, bumpy road to happily ever after. But that only made it better. There was no insta-love, this was a beautiful journey of two people trying their best to help a little girl they loved and coming to terms with each other. I loved the epilogue and everything that came before it.

This is part of a series (which you should read because the other stories are good too) but can totally be read alone. I loved visiting with some of the past characters though!! Highly recommended.

New Family, New Love

This book started perfectly, showing the hero's dissolute life as a player before the big shake-up. Luckily, the author didn't make us wait for the big thing that would change his world forever: discovering that he had a long-lost four-and-a-half-year-old daughter and that the girl's mother is dying from metastatic breast cancer. The mother was not expecting him to completely take over custody; she had made her sister the guardian of the little girl. But she needed him to take care of her while the aunt finishes up a job overseas. The mother knew she didn't have much time left and wanted to get her daughter squared away. The scene between these estranged lovers was very touching; you couldn't help but feel for the dying mother. I am an RN, and I thought the author did an excellent job portraying what it is like for an end-stage cancer patient. Nate, the dad, has absolutely no clue how to be a father and doesn't even understand what a little girl needs. The little girl, of course, is devastated by the loss of her mother and becomes withdrawn, now living with two strangers, her father and her aunt (though the aunt is soon to be away at a new job). The only person she seems to take to right away is the children's librarian, and Nate takes her to the library nearly every day so she can have her story time with Miss Max. It's a small town, of course. So they knew of each other before but didn't run in the same circles. After a few conversations and seeing Autumn, the little girl, with Miss Max, the adults hatch a plan where Max will move in while the little girl is in the hero’s custody and help with his daughter, and Nate will pretend to be her boyfriend to help get her mother off Max's back. The arrangement is supposed to be temporary all the way around, of course, but I think you can already see the setup for romance and potential problems with the custody of the little girl.

The story drew me right in. I thought the characters were well drawn. Max's mother, my goodness, what a woman! You couldn't help but feel such sympathy for this little girl, and you wanted everything to work out right for her and her newly found dad. If you like your romance with a touch of family drama, you will most likely enjoy this book as well as I did.

A Fresh Take on an old theme. Loved this book!

After graduation, Nate simply enjoyed life as it came: no plans, no commitments, no to-do lists. He just went with the flow. All that ended when a “Florida Spring Fling” from long four years ago came back to haunt him. Autumn’s mother was dying of metastatic breast cancer and had weeks to live when she located Nate and introduced him to his daughter. Since he was the only one to take care of the child until her aunt returned from Africa, Nate became an instant daddy with some serious commitments—and absolutely no idea of how to function as a responsible father. The perfect answer came when he took his newly discovered daughter to the library for story time. The librarian, Maxine, was interested in escaping her over-controlling mother and jumped on the opportunity for a fair trade: she would become a live-in nanny and Nate would pretend to be Max’s boyfriend. The rest is wonderfully drawn story based on a common plot theme.

One of the things I loved most about the story was Max’s mother, Bethany. Her over-the-top “pink and purple, stilettos and lace” character was the source of humor and tension that this book needed. Watching her navigate her run for a seat on the town council while trying to micro-manage her daughter’s life was a hoot!

In the end, Max and Nate had to work through their own preconceived notions of what they wanted from life as well as each other. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and recommend it!

This was the second book in the Whispering Pines Series that I read and I enjoyed both books. I was given a copy of the book with the promise of an honest review. I appreciated the opportunity.
