The #1 tip: MAKE SURE THE METAL TERMINALS ARE ORIENTED THE CORRECT WAY when you put them into the connector housing. Use the attached diagram to help you and if you can't figure it out, ask somebody!
I would use this video to help with the installation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmqZkw8hK7M
I've seen plenty of negative reviews about this piece, and while I won't say someone didn't get a faulty piece at one point 98% of these reviews are customer error which led to the problems.
First off, you don't NEED to purchase this cable. Head to any Mitsubishi dealership and you can pick up the OEM cable for 25 bucks plus tax. I purchased this because I received the E 03 error on my Rockford system so instead of paying hundreds to replace or repair it this cable bypassed my need for the cd player. Second I purchased this because my local dealer was out of stock and it was going to take 5 days to get more in. If you don't mind waiting or they are available just pick up the OEM version (just ask for part number MZ360135EX).
Now about the negative reviews:
"Didn't come with any instructions" - it says right at the beginning instructions are available upon email request. Reading error on these customers part.
"It doesn't work" - there are numerous reasons that aren't the vendors fault so let's list them. 1, they didn't disconnect the negative terminal to the battery before this thus damaging the electrical. 2, they don't have an auxiliary option on their player (easy to miss and figure out just hold down cd for 5 seconds). 3, they didn't install properly. This has many avenues for failure. They may not have gotten the wires into the correct nodes, they may not have pushed the prongs completely in, or while installing they loosened an existing wire in its node. Again, all customer error.
End of story this product works well and is a good alternative to the OEM product.
Cord is decent, not fabulous but it's definitely a little on the el cheapo side. No big tho as the sound is all that matters. And the cord is super long which is awesome in case you want to route it through your console or just wrap it and have it hang out on the dash, which is what I did. I have a windshield mount and iPhone and this connect quite nicely and looks almost like it's part of the car.
Excellent buy all around.

i don't understand why Mitsubishi didn't have them installed in the factory, and why it took me so long to purchase it.
