These authors have never let me down. Sometimes I will start reading a book and think “Oh this is….. re-written”, it seems like their ideas are not original. But then, they throw in twists and turns that make the stories original, and nothing that you’ve ever read before. Often, when you read the Author’s Notes, as I always do, they explain that they actually came up with the idea for these stories first, and then put the book idea away when such and such a movie was made that basically told the story they were telling, and they felt like they could not keep writing based on that. But I’m so glad that they picked up their pens and put them to paper again, because they come up with amazing stuff.
Available Darkness Season one is a story of betrayal, love, magic and mayhem. Its about families, both dysfunctional blood families, and solid as stone chosen families. Its about hard choices, and having the guts to make them. Its about regret, and pain and sorrow. It makes you think, and wonder what you would do in similar circumstances. Sometimes, the answer will surprise you.
I personally could not put the book down. I believe I read it over 3 days. It was intense, fast paced, and I just wanted, no, needed, to know what came next. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I just read Available Darkness, which I found out was their first attempt at digital ereading. Once the Kindle helped create the boon that is now ereaders, their writing has churned out on an incredible rate. AD is wonderful re-imagining of the vampire stories that have been so trendy recently. They aren't vampires as we traditionally think of them--the suck your life-force via touch.
What really makes these authors' writing amazing is their characters. Everyone has read stories where the characters aren't developed enough or explained clearly--and those stories suck. That's why the new Star Wars movies aren't as good as the Original Star Wars--Lucas was too concerned with his new CGI and crap.
Read these indie-authors! Their stories are just as good as and probably should be on AMC, A&E, or HBO.
I was a little skeptical at first because the "vampire thing" has been pretty worn out...good thing it was far from the same old thing!
I loved the way the authors pulled together the separate storylines as they revealed each character's history.
I can't wait for season two to come out!!!
Some folks don't like the flash back and forward type of books or switching from different characters' perspectives.
Yeah, sometimes that can get confusing, but it makes for a much more interesting read! I like my brain to have to work a little when I read something.
This makes for a quick and easy read with many "breaks" for busy folks who have to "nickle and dime" their reading time.
If you are not patient, I recommend signing up and waiting to read once the whole season has been released. The hardest part is waiting for the next season!
I did sort of want to know what happens in the next season, but haven't bought it yet because I truly didn't enjoy the writing in this season - it was glaringly different from the others. Maybe if I'd read this one first rather than last I wouldn't have these issues.
I hate to give these talented authors such a mediocre rating, but I think this season could benefit from reworking/re-editing to bring it up to the standards of their other books.
Can't wait for the next season!
