Jimmy Wyatt is a realistic and likable main character. He honestly felt like someone I could meet on the street. Level headed and humble he was a refreshing break from the impulsive and arrogant characters that normally inhabit fiction. His romance with a local lady was sweet and natural.
The story moves slowly, but it is never dull. This is not a fast-paced action story. There is some action, two murders, a chase scene, and someone is threatened at gun point, but it is not thrown in just to make things exciting. The plot is never rushed or crammed, rather given room to progress as it needs to.
The main suspense comes from the murder mystery. I was very confused and frightened because almost every character I had been introduced to was a good, kind person. This left me to wonder which of those people was living a double life. I can't say too much more without giving anything away, but when all is revealed it is shocking and sad.
I spent a very happy summer evening reading this book. I hope that at some point in the future Jimmy Wyatt will be back with a new adventure for us.
But based on my past experience with Graham, I'm considering Avalon Falls a one-off event. I'm eagerly looking forward to his next books, which sound promising.
I enjoyed Graham's “Binding of the Blade" series and decided to give “Again Falls" a shot. I feel like I knew the characters when I finished the book, even though it's less than 400 pages.
The book kept me up reading at nights, which has not happened in some time. There were several times when I thought I had the ending figured out, only to be pulled to a new conclusion chapters later. I like that. I don't want to know the ending of a book when chapter one is finished.
A great read for voracious readers like me as well as for someone who might find longer books daunting.
I look forward to another book with these characters.
