Pros: I bought this game in 2010 but am just now taking the time to really get into it. Great graphics, nice story line, love the open world map themes. It is a good way to spend time while practicing social distancing.
I used a 3rd party software to map the keyboard controls to a xbox 360 controller, which I find much easier to use than a keyboard and mouse for gaming.
Cons: controls could be better, especially for flight. I'm sure I'll figure it out but I have a hard time getting the Banshee to ascend while in flight.
Basically, in a nutshell, if you are a die hard Avatar fan, buy this game and immerse yourself into the world of Pandora.
Now you will see some bad reviews blaming the game or Amazon for it not working on their system. Those reviews should be voided because the users did not have a pc that was up to running the game. Your ordinary Dell, Gateway, HP computer will most likely not run this. You need a high performance PC, or gamer PC, to run this on it's max settings and enjoy the visuals like they should be seen. So don't take a baseball bat to your PC cuz it's not working, or blame Amazon, Ubisoft, or your credit card company. Stop what you are doing and wait till you get a PC (or certain parts that your system needs) that is capable of running it then try installing it again.
Here are the specs for the game. NOTE: THIS GAME IS VERY PICKY AND WILL NOT RUN THE GAME IF YOUR SYSTEM DOES NOT MEET THE RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS!!

The biggest downer in this game was no multiplayer. It’s advertised, but apparently the servers have been shut down. If you are buying for the multiplayer, don’t bother. But, still, you need internet to play because it needs internet to save. If you played the whole game without saving, and suddenly your internet goes out on the last mission, oops, sorry, have fun playing all over again.
If you took the time to pick up some Na’vi after the movie, well, you won’t be disappointed. There is quite a few mentions of Na’vi words in game, and occasionally you will find some people that only speak Na’vi.
Game mechanics are a little rough. As a Na’vi, you get four different weapons; a bow, a staff, double daggers and a machine gun. The gun has to be the worst, doing very little damage, even with the best one. Movement takes a little time to get used to in the beginning. I have yet to try to RDA side, but I can inform you that flying on an Ikran is going to take some practice.
As for glitches, I can tell you that three times in game at different times and places, I jumped on a rock and fell right through the world and died. Wee. I also would like to mention that I seemed to skip some dialogues here and there, but I am not sure if this is something that happens to everyone, some people, or just me… but it was very disappointing.
The graphics were definitely selling point. It seems like developers put a lot of effort into this, leaving little time left for the rest of the game. Because of the beautiful landscape, it does lag a little bit, but it’s still very playable. I used a laptop to play this game, so if you have a gaming computer, I doubt this will be a problem. If you do have a laptop though, I would say it’s laggier than Assassin’s Creed 1 on highest settings, but less laggy than Assassin’s Creed 2 on it’s highest settings. I have not found a way to change the graphic settings in Avatar, however.
You can interact with the environment quite a bit. As a Na’vi, I was able to cut down plants with my blade, even the ones that are just there for show and don’t “die”. These types of plants also move when you walk in them, giving the game a real effect. Mist and lighting were very well introduced in the game, and I was amazed at many of the landscapes.
The point of the game on the Na’vi side was to find the songs, through trees and crystals and ground vibrations. It’s pretty far from any sense of logic, but to make things worse they didn’t exactly tell me what the songs revealed or how they helped us find the lost tree. Or, maybe they did and I missed it, because as mentioned before, it seemed a little too easy for me to accidentally skip the cut scenes where they explain s***.
It seemed like I only got to actually fly on my Ikran no more than twice, in the beginning of the game, and another two short times at the end. For the rest of the time, I felt like the game was tired of my horrible flying skills, and just had me teleport to the next location, without getting to fly like it promised me.
Direhorses are supposed to be the fastest land animal in Pandora, yet using one seemed little faster than moving on foot. Riding on the Thanator was much faster. Also, the movie notes that a bond with an Ikran is a lifelong thing, and you can only bond with one. Let’s just say they totally forgot about that when making the game. Another not-with-the-movie note, should be that at the end you become Toruk Makto, getting to ride the big red banshee. He just came up to me and let me mount him, and no one even made a deal about it like they did with Jake. Somehow being the First Voice automatically means that you get to ride the coolest, rarest banshee in Pandora?
It took me three days to finish the game, with about a couple hours put in each day. One thing that really disappointed me was the ending. It seemed bland and rushed, and I think the Wii version scores at least one point in this category. The Wii ending was emotional, after hearing a father’s final words to his family after you kill him. I feel like the PC version could have done better here.
Once you finish the game, you can still go out and fly on banshees and ride on direhorses. There’s still guys to kill and animals to hunt. Sadly, it gets boring very quick, making me want to try the multiplayer, but oops, I can’t. Thanks Ubisoft for shutting down the servers.
This game deserves three and a half stars. Two star for graphics, one star for the fun, another star for the story line, and one more star for the nice soundtrack that was different from the movie, but still beautiful. Minus one star for no multiplayer, and minus half a star for not being perfect to the movie details.
But the graphics are really spectacular in 3d. I can't speak to the game play since my son and I have only played it for 2 or 3 hours, but so far, so good. Normally, I don't let him play games with guns, but I really wanted something in 3d. Also, you are shooting alien animals, not people - at least in the first level.
