If you buy this clamp, you HAVE to add this part...
Over all, I have found this adjustable clamp to be fantastic. It's versatile for small board work with the teeth having multiple recesses to allow for different clamping configurations. While using this, I noticed that if I turned the board in a specific direction, it seemed to resist turning and when it did turn I heard a scratching sound along with a "pop". After a bit, I further noticed little plastic bits appearing on the lower beam which lead me to believe that the poping sound was the spring tearing out plastic from the frame. (which was confirmed when I disassembled the frame and investigated). The fix: a #10 washer. Unfortunately, the #10 washer doesn't quite fit over the shaft, so one may have to drill it out a bit (I used a 7/16" drill bet and it's perfect). I've included pics for those that are interested.

This vise is very basic, but I find it works great for repairing the circuit boards of digital multimeters. It's very easy to use and holds the boards securely in the jaws. One jaw is mounted on a spring that in theory will help prevent putting to much pressure on the PCB. There are thumbscrews threaded into the posts of the jaws that allow the PCB to be set and locked at an angle, but if the spring is compressed the screw will also lock it in the compressed position. I normally only lock the side opposite the spring to avoid this.

All in all this vise is great for the money, my only complaint might be that it could be a little shorter to keep the board close to the surface of the bench. Build quality seems fairly good, with rubber feet to prevent it slipping around and it's large enough to hold any board I work on.

This works exactly as intended, and really makes circuit board assembly much easier, even more so than similar products like the "helping hands" clips that I had used up until now and always found to be a bit cumbersome and unreliable.

This is able to hold boards of almost any size, and it is extremely convenient to be able to insert a couple components into the top of the board, then just immediately flip the board over in the holder and solder it from the back. Also, it holds the board nice and steady when soldering surface mount components

The large plastic holders can sometimes make it awkward to place components that are at the very edge of the board, but I can usually just rotate or move the board so that I can place the last couple components that were obstructed by the holders.

Overall I HIGHLY recommend this. This is arguably one of the best tools available for assembling PCBs, and any hobbyist who regularly assembles boards or perf board prototypes should try this.

So there I was, feeling bored and with money to burn in my pocket, and somehow I ended up buying one of these little gadgets. Sure, I've gone almost 50 years to date, and many many electronic projects, with never feeling the need for any such device in the past, but for little more than a couple of drinks at Starbucks, well, it doesn't hurt to try one out, does it!

Why would you use this instead of just placing whatever object you're working on, horizontally, on your work bench and soldering away 'normally'? In truth, I'm still not quite sure of the answer to it, but maybe it helps one to be more 'ergonomically optimized' and to have the right angles and dangles for everything. Although - there's a point - you don't want too much of a slope on a PCB in case a blob of solder runs away with you and down the board to somewhere it shouldn't be. :)

The device is solidly constructed and I'm sure will do a great job holding PCBs in place. I'm glad I got it, even if I might not use it very often. It is a fair price, too.

So if you decide to buy one of these too, with a little bit of mad money and not too many expectations, you'll probably be equally pleased.

If you've been juggling your PCB in order to solder than this is what you want. It works as expected. The quality is good and it totally works. It has made soldering on PCBs a simple joy.

If you need this holder I recommend one other product that will help you. These two products will revolutionize your soldering experience. Get Blu Tack. This is the stuff you might use to stick a poster to a wall. It's a bit like silly putty or clay but it releases without leaving a mess. Use this to hold your components in place while you solder. It's amazing and especially useful with this holder.

This has been absolutely amazing. I design and build effects pedals for guitars. I wanted to test it for a while before reviewing.

I used alligator clip style helping hands for years. This is a lot more stable. It doesn't slide around my work area, very well built, and is easy to adjust.

Not only did this cut my production time by 1/3, it eliminated scratching on pcb boards, and helped me use better posture while building the pedals.

Very sturdy but a little cumbersome if you have a limited amount of work area. It has a fairly large or bulky footprint for small projects. I do like how much flexibility you have with this and it really does "lock down" the part when necessary and holds well. I painted a little rubber cement into the board clamp grooves and let it dry before mounting a circuit board in the clamp. This gives the clamp surface a much better non-slip grip than the hard plastic to circuit board slippy grip like it comes. This pretty much solves the slippage or sliding circuit board issue I had.
A dab of liquid rubber in the groves would probably work better and last longer but we work with what we have... This item is weighted well with a low center of gravity and is very sturdy when tightened down all the way. The cross members are all metal with sturdy rubber insulated feet but the two uprights and the clamps or holders are made with hard plastic which let the board slide around to easily (this is where I added the rubber cement dabs). A good buy for the money and very sturdy except possibly the plastic board clamps. .

This thing is a great value. Like others have said, the blue uprights are plastic, the jaws and frame are metal. All of the threaded parts have metal inserts. This is a great low cost product designed for hobby use. It works perfect for me as a hobbyist. If you are expecting professional quality at $15, get real! If you need a higher end product, spend the $50, don't buy this and complain that it isn't up to your standards.

Product arrived earlier than expected in perfect condition. It was a breeze to assemble and a joy to use. I had a similar type of soldering aid years ago but it broke after many years of use. This design is well thought out and is indispensable when working with both sides of the circuit board at same time. Simply rotating the board to the other side sure beats having to do it manually, allowing for virtually hands-free operation, and holding it steady to work on. Impressed with the prompt delivery and quality of the product. Would not hesitate to order with this vendor again!
