--- New Avengers (2013) #29-30
The "Time Runs Out" series is the countdown to 2015's humongous Marvel event: Secret Wars . The multiverse is collapsing in on itself. As alternate earths collide with our own earth the only possible outcome is destruction, unless the alternate earth is destroyed first. A Cabal has been formed to do the unthinkable: commit genocide on a planetary level in order to save our own reality. In the previous volume of Time Runs Out, Avengers: Time Runs Out Volume 2 , the many Avengers team collide in a conflict over the ethics and implications of how to save our world.
This volume picks up immediately on the heels of last collection's cliff hanger ending. Plans are set in motion to eliminate the Cabal. The feud between Namor and Black Panther reaches a climax that promises more blood will be spilled between Atlantis and Wakanda in the future. This volume also sees the return of Hank Pym from inter-dimensional space with news of the Beyonders. Readers finally have an explanation for what is causing the multiverse to collapse. In a series of cosmic panels the tragedy of swath of destruction carved through all of reality itself is brought to life.
This volume sets the pieces for the endgame into motion. The collapsing multiverse finally catches the attention of the intergalactic inhabitants of our universe, and the Shi'ar mobilize an alien armada for their final solution. Cyclops ominously hints at the X-Men's solution to the multiverse's collapse. And the only people standing in the way of these machinations are, in Rocket Raccoon's words "idiots"--better known as the Avengers.
Time Runs Out continues in Avengers: Time Runs Out Volume 4 .
In this iteration heroes and villains have grouped into cabal, a lot of scheming included, and the number of universe Is down to less than two dozen. And shrinking.
These stories are so much mor complex and densely structured than the Marvel I grew mup reading, they are really marvelous.
What? There's a vol 4? I am out.....
The pacing seems a bit slow in parts but not overwhelmingly so.
The big revelation this volume is that one of the two mysterious factions behind the collapse, the Ivory Kings, are powerful beyond imagination, and have been killing all the marvel cosmic characters. I presume that the next vol will explain what these things want, but so far it just comes off as yet another all powerful force who is beyond anything we have seen before. The art is fine, there are some ass shots of Spider Woman that would be laughable if it wasn't Spiderwoman, but I have a theory that Jessica's ass is the only thing keeping her in the Avengers. Cap Marvel also looks strange in a few places, with her hair seeming to stand straight up at all times.

However, at some point, I had the impression that there were too many variables at play and that some elements weren't totally explained or integrated in the story.
