Product Description

Action superstar Sylvester Stallone stars as Frankie Delano, a tough-as-nails bodyguard who vows toprotect the beautiful Jennifer Barrett (Madeleine Stowe), after her father, mafia kingpin Angelo (Anthony Quinn), is gunned down in cold blood. Now, with nowhere to turn, they must run for their lives, while being pursued by a murderous hit man determined to eliminate his target at all costs.

Sylvester Stallone spins a lighter, more romantic version of his tough guy image in Avenging Angelo. For his entire life, Frankie (Stallone) has been protecting Jennifer (Madeleine Stowe), the daughter of a mob boss named Angelo (Anthony Quinn)--but she doesn't know it, any more than she knows that Angelo is her father. When Angelo gets hit, Frankie reveals the truth. Having just caught her husband with another woman, Jennifer isn't receptive to the rest of her life upended; but after accepting her heritage, she decides to avenge her father. If none of this sounds particularly funny, well, it isn't; the problem is, it's supposed to be. Avenging Angelo flounders in search of a coherent comic tone and never finds it. Stowe is always engaging and Stallone's softer touch is surprisingly appealing, but not a moment of this dopey script makes any sense. --Bret Fetzer

"Avenging Angelo" is a fairly good movie, but one I enjoyed despite its shortcomings. It will forever be remembered as the last film of Anthony Quinn's long and illustrious career. Quinn does a good job of playing the mobster with a heart. Sylvester Stallone looks great & has enough puppy dog eyes directed at Madeleine Stowe to charm the coldest of hearts. Stowe as Jennifer does a good job at giving reality to her rich girl with a rocky marriage character. The give and take between she and Stallone keeps the romantic aspect alive. Italian actor Raoul Bova does a good job as the pseudo-writer who charms Jennifer. I'm not sure if it's Harry Van Gorkum or Kip Barrett who played the husband, but he did a great job of being irritating. My favorite moment is when the drugged Jennifer crashes the car in the driveway, only to find her husband making whoopee in the pool with her best friend. This was apparently Martyn Burke's first feature directing job. He had previously written the screenplay for "Gross Anatomy" starring Matthew Modine. The difficulty with the flick is the pull between the romance and the mafia hits. There is humor in the film, kind of a feature-length "Sopranos." For its shortcomings, this is still a pleasant evening's entertainment. Of course, you'll want to see Anthony Quinn one last time. Enjoy!

In my view this is far from being as terrible as some reviewers suggest. In fact I can honestly say I enjoyed both Sylvester Stallone and Madelaine Stowe, whose chemistry was obvious and very pleasant. The plot is not as good as the acting, which is subtle and fun, but even when the story hits low points it's all in a light comedic spirit so who really cares. Good job Sly.

when i was gonna first get the movie i wasnt expecting to really enjoy it that much being that it did not get released in theaters but i wanted it because i do like Stallone movies so i figured i would just check it out. Well i'm so suprised that it did not get a theater release the movie was 100 times better than i was expecting it to be. It had action, comedy, and romance and i would say Stallone's best performance since Cop Land. So i just wanna let people know that dont be scared because it didnt get a theatrical release you will be suprised and entertained trust me.

I have enjoyed being surprised by this poorly titled movie. If you want a very nice surprise, then this it. It isn't an action movie it is a romantic comedy and it does a very good job. The writing, camera shots, music all done very well. I am glade I took a chance and bought this movie. This movie once people get past the bad title and the bad outline of the movie they will say wow! I wasn't expecting that! Wow!

This movie is actually quite dreadful, but for some reason, I love it. Madeleine Stowe's acting in this - it's terrible, and I really, really want to dislike her. Everyone else is pretty much a stereotype. Then there is Sylvester Stallone. I don't care for his acting in most of his movies, but for some reason, he was just so endearing in this one. He's sweet, thoughtful, loving, respectful, and otherwise a gentleman... who happens to be in the mafia. I don't know why I like it, but I just melt a little whenever Sly is on the screen in this one. Maybe this is one of those movies you watch when you're home alone with a nice glass of wine and some chocolate...

Ok...So, first of all...I know the movie hasn't come out yet. But my drama teacher got a copy from the writer, and we watched it in class. So, that said, on the review. Now normally, I'm not really a big fan of this kind of movie. But this one is different. I absolutely loved it. It's got a very different sort of humor, sophisicated, but great. And there are a few little things throughout the movie that are just hysterical. One of my classmates literally fell out of her chair, she was laughing so hard. I would definitely recommend this movie.

Avenging Angelo was Anthony Quinn's last film before he passed away at 86 years of age in Boston, Massachusetts from pneumonia and respiratory failure while suffering from throat cancer. However, his performance in this film was very well done and the bond that Sly Stallone's character (Frankie) share's with Quinn's character (Angelo) is reminiscent of the bond that Sly's character "Rocky" shared with Burgess Meredith's "Mickey" in Rocky.

While the film carries a serious tone of death and murder, the banter between Sly's "Frankie" and Madeleine Stowe's "Jennifer" brings the comedy that this film taunts to be into full fruition. While describing the events that depict the comedy would reveal the story, I will say if you are a fan of traditional romantic comedies (as well as action films with a humorous/comedic nod to them) then you will enjoy this film.
