I just finished season 1. It could have been a really good show but it has a few intangible flaws that feel like annoyances that shouldn't be there. One thing for sure is that the casting sucks. I don't like looking at half of the cast. Josh Gadd's character of Judd is like a made for TV version of a Jack Black character. Hugh Laurie is doing his best to NOT be Doctor House. the rest of the cast just seems like they were selected to tick boxes rather than actually be meaningful to making the show better. it's full of incompetent white men. aggressive and problem solving women. women of colors save the day. its not so much what they have done, but like most woke media... its how they have done it that makes it feel fake and forced. even as far as the very likable Billie character being the only person that understand the job and can get things done, feeling like she doesn't get the credit she deserves as white men all around her are hailed as heroes. they take a perfectly good character and through their writing lens, make her a "cringe" character. as said it could have been a really good show. some of the aggressive female characters are supposed to played for laughs. but when nearly ALL of the women are aggressive like this to their male counterparts the joke is kind of lost. all of the men are incompetent, ridiculed, and beaten to submission. its all just so heavy handed and cringe when it doesn't need to be. there is a lot of good here. the premise is great. the constant stream of disasters are great. dealing with passengers in every situation is pretty good. even the mob mentality and how they are easily swayed by a single suggestion is excellent. the woke casting and writing is off putting. they could have accomplished the same effects and not ruined the show. the jokes might have been better as well.
I'll start season 2 tonight and finish the story as far as it goes. I just don't like it as much as I wanted to.

Exceptionally Funny (with many hidden technicalities)

This, on first glance, might be considered a typical disaster at sea movie--it is not. It is actually in space, which puts much more dynamics into the environment. The modern flare, subtle drama, and technicalities make this a very funny movie. I have not laughed this much in a long time! Avenue 5 is not--NOT, Airplane with its puerile humor, Avenue 5 has well established situational humor that adults will appreciate. [note: has occasional language and subtle adult-focused concerns] The realism and established world are so familiar, one might think it is attempting a social commentary ;) Also, one could think the Avenue 5 luxury cruise to Saturn could be a real thing today. (i mean, they ARE giving rides to the edge of space even now, so,...) The dialog is delivered with such dead-pan, that it adds to the immersive reality, one can not help but smile. For example, (tiny spoiler) Iris: "oh, and he has donated his coffin to Joe." (recently deceased Engineer) Captain: "He knows it is a gift--it is not a loan." (Iris' brow furrows) "I think so,..." The characters have well-established personalities, concerns, and conflicts. Their interactions among the crew, passengers, ship, and related organizations make for a enjoyable evening. I recommend consuming all of the episodes in one sitting, they are continuations from the previous episode, and they keep the story and character arcs fresh.I am looking forward to the purchase of Season 2 once it completes.
