About the Author

C.C. Hunter is the author of the young adult fantasy series Shadow Falls, including Born at Midnight. She grew up in Alabama, where she caught lightning bugs, ran barefoot, and regularly rescued potential princes, in the form of Alabama bullfrogs, from her brothers. Today, she's still fascinated with lightning bugs, mostly wears shoes, but has turned her focus to rescuing mammals. She now lives in Texas with her four rescued cats, one dog, and a prince of a husband, who for the record, is so not a frog. When she's not writing, she's reading, spending time with her family, or shooting things--with a camera, not a gun.

C.C. Hunter is a pseudonym. Her real name is Christie Craig and she also writes humorous romantic suspense romance novels.

So let me start by stating that I absolutely love this series!!! Now that I know CC Hunter also writes under Christie Craig I completely understand why I adore these books so much, I LOVE her!!! I read Born at Midnight because of the price but was pulled in to the teen paranormal drama and was absolutely dying to read Awake at Dawn!!! This sequel picks up with at Camp SHadow Falls with Kylie Galen and the gang learning to cope with their paranormal existence and learn to coexist with other species peacefully. Kylie still has no idea which paranormal category she falls under but she does realize that her ability to see ghosts is not as easy as it would appear, being that ghosts are not the best communicators. She is also undergoing some physical changes that cause Holiday to think she may be a certain type of specie, which type I will not say because I do not believe in spoilers!!! Her love triangle is still fully active as she deals with Lucas, her werewolf love, gone from camp after he mysteriously left without a word with Fredericka, his ex a she-wolf who would do anything to get him back. And then there is Derek, fae, who absolutely adores Kylie and the two get hot and heavy until he senses that she is not quite over Lucas completely. She is forced to decide which one she wants to be with, discover what she truly is, find out who her dead father's real parents are so she can possibly discover the paranormal DNA she has, and convince her mom to allow her to attend the boarding school that the camp is now opening. And to make matters worse....Lucas comes back in the end, and he is very much ready to pick up where they left off!!! Plus Holiday has a little love tryst of her own with Burnett, a vampire who also works for the paranormal section of the government.Read more ›

I like this series. It is fun, play, funny and I just really connected with it. The characters have some problems like most people (after it is a supernatural tale) and they are flawed.

No one is perfect and nothing is absolutely perfect in this book. Everyone, all throughout is just trying to figure things out as they go along. There are family problems, relationship problem and etc... Not everyone gets along, feelings are confused and misunderstanding happen.

Kylie is typical book protagonist. She avoids things a lot and she isn't sure about what to do in certain situations, but she is an honest, good, and kind person who loves the people around her.

I don't know what is going to happen with the love triangle but I know who I am voting for. I really like both Derek and Lucas but I have to say that I am hoping it's going to be her and Lucas. I guess I am just going to have to wait until the next book "Taken At Dusk" to find out.

Awake at Dawn is the sequel to Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter. Born at Midnight stars Kylie who is sent by her mother to a camp for troubled teens after being busted at a party by the police. While on the bus Kylie notices that the kids seem strange and after she arrives at the camp finds out that it's a camp for supernatural teens. They don't know exactly what Kylie is, just that she can see ghosts. Kylie soon gets entwined in a mystery and is torn between a cute faerie and a werewolf.

Awake at Dawn continues our story back at camp where we left off. Kylie is being haunted by a bloody woman who tells her that she needs to help a friend or her friend will die but gives no more information than that and her romantic relationships continue to confuse her. Kylie also starts getting powers and wonders what type of creature she will be.

Awake at Dawn was not as good as the first book in the series but did answer questions that were left hanging at the end of the last book and the tone continued to be the same. I did feel that the story moved slowly however and I didn't find myself rushing to find out what would happen next. I would recommend this book for readers who enjoyed the first book but if readers were unsure about the first book I'd skip it.

Appropriateness: There are some heavy make out sessions and some discussions of sex between the characters. I would recommend this book to teens 14+ that enjoy paranormal romance.

I love this book series I came across a different book from the same series at the airport (Reborn) and fell instantly in love with the series, I immediately bought the rest of the series. I read them all until the most recent one that I just started reading. C.C. Hunter along with VC Andrews, Danielle Steel and Janette Oke are my favorite authors. This series is a page turner, I can sit and read one book in a day if I am not distracted. I highly recommend this series if you are interested in paranormal or supernatural stories.

Awake at Dawn starts not long after Shadow Falls has ended. Kylie is still at camp for the supernatural trying to figure out what she really is. As her abilities start to develop she starts to question what she might really be from vampire to werewolf even considering shapeshifter but she learns that she’s not one of those. She’s something else but no one has a clue what she could really be. The only way she’s going to find out is by finding her father’s birth parents. The only problem he’s not a very helpful ghost so she enlists the help of a Private investigator.

As if camp and dealing with being a supernatural isn't enough to keep her busy. Kylie has two potential love interests. She can’t seem to forget Lucas the werewolf who she has a past with that ran away from camp in the first one and Derek the half fae who can sense her attraction. Throw in a ghost who wants her help but isn’t giving Kylie enough information. Soon bodies are turning up in town accidents to the humans but victims of a rogue vampires. Parent’s day is just around the corner and Lucas has returned to camp. It’s enough to keep her busy. Will Kylie figure out what she really is? Who the ghost is trying to save? Will she choose Derek or Lucas?

I really like Kylie as a character even if she is caught in a love triangle which I can’t stand. Typically love triangles are game over from the start but I'm too enchanted by Kylie’s story. I think the characters are great her friends Miranda and Della are each unique with their own stories hidden within Kylies. I’m torn on which guy I like for Kylie but it’s hard not to cheer for the werewolf Lucas. I’m curious to see how this will play out.

Awake at Dawn in the second in an exciting young adult paranormal series.
