Awake on Garland street is really a double love story one between Brendan and Grace who have loved each other since they were teens but made choices that tore them apart. The second love story is between Brendans great grandfather and his love Bridget and how the choices that he made left him with much guilt and regret. You will fall in love with Brendan and Grace as they learn to get over the past and face the future together. This story reminded me in ways of a Christmas carol it's slow to start and then picks up bringing emotions for each couple. Showing the choices we make in life can bring happiness and the greatest gift in life love. A great read all in all.

Brendan has just come back into town after his band split up due to a woman. He has never gotten over Grace and now he is being haunted by his grandfather's ghost in his house. His grandfather can not move on until Brendan is able to set right what his grandfather was unable to do.
As Brendan and Grace try to figure out their feelings they are once again faced with the possibility of Brendan leaving. Will either have to make a sacrifice for love?
I liked this book but at times I found it so back and forth that it was a bit too much. I liked Brendan's grandfather's ghost and thought he was definitely an interesting one with a wild past.
I thought the whole band thing was just too ironic on why they split and why they were facing issues again and I thought Brendan was just too self-centered as it was all revolving around him.
Overall I enjoyed the book.
This is a story of love. Not just between a man and a woman, but between a musician, his instrument, and his music…and which should take the priority. Brendon believed his music must come first.
The author takes her time setting the stage. She even drops in two ancestral ghosts to guide Brendan and Mary Grace from their past mistakes. But a drunk ghost is not always the best choice to take advice from.
Honestly, I thought the story took too much time in the first half, but when matters began unraveling, the pace perked up, by the end I was literally crying. (I won’t tell you if they were sad or happy tears or both.)
My advice is to read this book. You’ll be glad you did. While I gave the first half only 4 stars, the second half got 5 stars, which leaves me at 4.5 and since it made me cry, I’m rounding up.
An ARC was provided in return for my honest opinion.
I really enjoy reading books around the Christmas Holiday. So I was intrigued when I received Awake on Garland Street.
This book is a great read about second chances at love.
Brendan is a musician and chose his music and band over his love for Grace. Grace has always loved Brendan but when he left with his band, leaving her behind, she vowed to move on.
Eight years after the breakup. Brendan's band broke up....over a woman, so he has come back home. His Grandfather starts haunting him so he won't repeat his Grandfather's mistakes, losing the love of a good woman for the one-sided love of his music.
Grace has moved on, or so she claims, and is about to get married. But she can't go through with it. Her heart still belongs to Brendan.
They have the chance to try again, but when the wedge of his band starts coming back, will their love be strong enough to make it through.
I did enjoy Awake on Garland Street. It is a heartbreaking tale of love lost, wrong choices and life long regret. It is a bit slow to start with for my taste, but it is partly for a build up and information for the reader. It's a well thought out plot and a great character development.
