"We get some intense action scenes that would put most action movies to shame. Heart-pounding, near death moments but Duvall weaves in her signature humor with banter, teasing and more . . . Awaken the Darkness hooked me from the very first page and I devoured it in two sittings. Brilliant and perfectly paced it had all the elements I love in a Duvall novel."--Caffeinated Book Reviewer

A Note for Immortal Guardians Fans
I would like to thank all of you who have asked me for Stan's story. I've wanted to tell his tale ever since I wrote Night Unbound but had to wait for the right time. When I released Blade of Darkness, Stanislav leapt forward and informed me that the time had come.
I hope you'll have fun with Stanislav and Susan!

I am soooooooo happy that the author created Susan to be wary but not one to get too frazzled. She is no diztzy character and I love it. I would say out of all the books in the Immortal Guardians series none of the ladies are written as weak, always doing what they shouldn't because they know better, and no one can tell them what to do, etc and therefore always need saving as a plot point. Those become tedious for me and so cliche.
Anyway. If you enjoy PNR that can make you laugh and get misty eyed AND have a smart plotline then you will enjoy not only Awaken the Darkness but all the books in the IG series.
Sweet moments, discovery and tearful reunions quickly pulled me into the tale. The characters are loveable and fearless. The Immortal Guardians is hands down one of my favorite PNR series.
Stan and Susan are fantastic together. Their relationship evolves quickly, but I feel it is a reasonable occurrence. You perceive their emotional connection right away. Susan was cautious but compassionate. Stanislav was respectful and protective of Susan, but he was not obnoxious about it. They found instant chemistry with one another and are a likable couple.
The plot unfolds in a tight pocket of time, and the pacing is quite fast. I felt an immense amount of tension when the situation called for it. Once Stan was on the correct path to finding his Immortal family, I got especially anxious. The poor man had all the answers in front of him. But if you can't remember your past, it is incredibly hard to trust. Then the ending snuck up on me. Not a lot happens in regards to the overall series arc, but I did not mind this at all.
When I first experienced The Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall, I fell instantly in love with the series. She brings an appropriate balance between drama, comedy, suspense, and romance. This is a captivating urban fantasy/paranormal romance series, one that I wait not so patiently for the next installment. I always suggest that all readers come to their own conclusions

The Author has definitely a gift to surprise her readers.
First I liked the story about Stan, but it was also a bit monotone, because it's just about Stan and Susan, sure there are other characters involved, but nothing like in the other books in this series. It just got more interesting after Stan has contacted Alexei, but after that it felt rushed. Not much on the news to catch him up, like that Roland and Sarah has adopted a little boy, and no words about Aidan and his Dana, Bastian and Melanie, what about Cliff, this book lacked the information about all the immortal Guardians, was a bit disappointed.
Sure the story was still ok, but I missed all the fun when there all together.
No potential triggers.
Stanislav's story. The author reveals the fate of Stan, missing for years, originally a novella and now a full length book.
The storyline bears little relation to the backstory of previous books, but it is there in the background. This book concentrates on Stan and Susan and I have to admit that it was a good read.
Excellent characterisation, I adored Susan and obtaining a deeper understanding of Stan was delightful.
The storyline is straightforward enough to enable the reader to treat the book as a standalone but it really would be best for the reader to read the full series from the beginning to obtain the best understanding.
There are some sex scenes each of them appropriate and loving. If you are prudish don't buy the book.
It's a paranormal romance set in the world of the Immortal Guardians where vampires and bad guys abound and with a guaranteed HEA.
I will be purchasing the next book in this series.
It had everything that I look for in a 5star book; intelligent writing style that's easy to read, main characters with depth of personality that I can believe in, depth of character in the supporting cast, believable background story/setting and a balanced mix of relationship and/or romance to action scenes and sex scenes. I was left breathless, wondering where Ms Duvall would take us next in this addictive series!
Due to the graphic nature of the violence and sex scenes, I would only recommend this book to adults who are not offended by content of this nature, so if you enjoy strong alpha heroes and independent capable heroines, tense and often traumatic and brutal confrontations and hot lust/romance scenes then give this book a go.
