Just opening it and seeing the soft delicate colors triggers you to take a deeper breath and let stillness fall like a blanket around your shoulders. It inspires me in the morning, and quiets my mind in the evening.
It's not a complicated book, it is simple and delicate, but if you allow yourself a few moments in a day to sit with it - it will change your life.
This book offers us a simple and beautiful yet direct and profound method to awaken to these inner recesses of our hearts and minds. Each of 30 illustrations is accompanied by a title and an expansive sentence, followed by a daily exercise and two questions--all of which demonstrate that a few words can embrace depth and focus of meaning.
The colorful, evocative images touch us in a space unreachable with words. We each have gifts, often hidden, to awaken and develop. Delia Tolz offers us this possibility by sharing her gifts with us. Thank you, Ms. Tolz.
'Awakening' is a premier creative, artistic workbook that everyone can benefit from.
For me, the beauty of this volume is that it can be used in different ways by anyone, no matter where they are on their spiritual journey: by those who are on a particular spiritual path; by those who are in the process of searching for a way to deepen their understanding of who they are and bring it into daily life; and by those who are trying to work on a particular aspect or characteristic of their life that they feel needs a clearer understanding. This is because each of the topics and drawings touch both the mind and heart and beckon us to go deeper to better understand ourselves and our place in the world.
I feel that this volume is a perfect companion for anyone who is looking for a way to begin a spiritual search, but doesn't quite know how to get started. With its simple structure and focused exercises and meditations, one can use a particular topic, image and ideas presented in a chapter as a guide for the day.
Reading and slowly take time to enter the images, poems and words, the authenticity of this work shines through. It is clear that what is contained in this volume is not just "wishful thinking" with some pretty images. It's the product of the way that the writer/artist has chosen to live her life and her commitment to the spiritual path that she is on.
Beginning with a short poem/prayer, each "chapter" or theme contains simple daily exercises to help one delve more deeply into a given idea. Questions are offered that stimulate one to candidly investigate how one is living, to really ponder what one needs to do to grow as a human being. Every theme is deftly and colorfully portrayed in full-page drawings that truly beckon one to embark on a journey of self-exploration and discovery. The illustrations are ethereal, imaginative, luminous and symbolic, and the writing is both gentle and engaging.
A must read, must do book for anyone seeking to live more fully! Appropriate across the spectrum of age groups, from youth to the aging!
