The rack is very lightweight but very strong, and it looks nice on the 26" bike, but because the stays are about 1" too short, it hits the tire on the 700cm bike. The stay length is advertised as 354mm, but it's more like 348mm to the bottom of the rack - it's simply too short to fit a 700mm diameter tire.
If you have a 26" bike, I can recommend this rack without hesitation, but it's too short to clear larger tires. I gave it 5 stars because it is a very good product, just doesn't work with my bike.
You'll notice the mounting brackets in the picture.. check to see if your bike has holes for all four screws. Mine did not, but the bike shop I went to gave me some extra hardware to properly mount this rack to my bike.
I took some black duct tape and covered all the bikes graphics, flat-black painted some Planet Bike full fenders, and then I mounted this rack. My goal was to make the bike look as "plain as possible" - dark green and flat black.
I chose this rack as the card that came with it shows 60 KG. that's a TON more carrying ability than most of the other racks I found on line or at the local shop.
The Trek is a 700cc bike - it mounted perfectly, even over the fenders I already had on there. The old Trek has braz-on's for both - separtately - so maybe that helps as I used the lower ones for the fenders and the higher ones for the Axiom Transit Rack.
Zip-tie-ing a milk crate is simple and fast (and cheap) and I don't mind burning a few zip-ties every time I want to throw the milk crate on. A Banjo Brothers market pannier fits great...and I've modded an old skateboard deck to zip tie onto this rack too. Why? because...small kids, even my wife can hop on for a ride - 60KG! that's a rack!
I love how my Trek has become a true work-horse since the rack was added. The fenders make it perfect to commute...but the rack makes it able to 'work.' So far I've not tried a full case of water bottles on it...but I've gotten that milk crate pretty full - with the pannier bag also on the rack...at least 75 pounds of groceries on this rack. No worries, no rattles, no problems.
I wanted simple, bomp-proof, and able to carry a person - even if I had to add a board for them to sit on....and I got it all with this rack. very happy with it.
The rack has a high capacity (60 kg). I have not loaded it that heavily, but I use two kitty-litter buckets as panniers. I have filled those with groceries more than once already and seen no sign of trouble. That amount of groceries weighs about 30 to 40 pounds (13 to 18 kg), and that is above the weight limits of most other racks in this price range.
I have noticed that the paint scratches easily. It's wise to be careful about that if appearance matters to you.
