Missing 33 pages!
I'm on page 10 of the Introduction and the last paragraph does not flow onto the next page which is listed as page 43 and has a table listed as "Table 10". Under Table 10 it begins a new section and subsequently refers to "Table 7". I cannot find Table 7 in this book! I had high hopes for this book but am left disappointed with the shotty editing. I believe the content is is likely solid, it just seems to be missing 33 pages!

This book reads like sitting down with the author and having a series of deeply engaging and memorable conversations. It is by far the best resource I have found on understanding Ayurveda and how it is a powerful, accessible and uplifting lifestyle.

While the book is rich with recipes, remedies and wise counsel on how to be healthy and happy, what I found outstanding and absolutely unique is how the context for each section is created through evocative and deeply informative stories from the author's young days studying with her grandfather, who was a learned yogi and insightful traditional healer. These stories are vivid, endearing, and deeply spiritual, and invite the reader to contemplate and experience the many dimensions of the state of health that the author and Ayurveda focus on.

The author then illustrates how these same teachings are so beneficial and surprisingly easy to apply for those of us who live in Western cities and not on the banks of holy river in the India of a generation or two ago. I found the stories of the author's students very encouraging: how their health and state of mind improved dramatically just by applying this knowledge one step at a time.

The style of the book inviting and fascinating to read, and consistently positive - quite a feat to maintain in a long chapter on constipation and diarrhea! The book has a wealth of very accessible advice laid out in ways I know I'll be able to keep referring to easily. The recipes are uncomplicated and easy to follow.

I highly recommend this book both for those who want to really explore what Ayurveda is about, and for those who are already familiar with the principles of Ayurveda, as it will give a fresh, full and inspiring perspective.

At the beginning of last year, I could barely get out of bed, feeling drained from an intense family situation that had recently ended and needed to jumpstart my life. I have known Acharya Shunya for two decades and been captivated by the authenticity of her teaching, so I purchased Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom and slowly began adding a few recommendations to my day. Within a month, I was feeling rejuvenated and refreshed and that each day was filling with positive energy.

Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom enables you to craft your own day by giving you the wisdom about how to make healthier choices. Acharya Shunya’s premise is that we are worthy of being loved and of loving ourselves and these simple lifestyle habits will enable us to do that every day. The recommendations are simple and practical and she clearly describes the rationale and options for fitting these into a busy schedule. I love how the book follows the day’s schedule, so you can focus on a part at a time according to your needs. Topics include oral hygiene, herbal shampoos and face masks among many others. The explanations are not intensely technical, and the parts that are are clearly designated, so the reader can easily skip these The recipes, handed down from her family and adjusted for modern needs by her husband and master chef Sanjai, are delicious, easy to make, and seasonally adjusted. Her delightful stories of being raised in this wisdom by her grandfather, whom she calls Baba, add a lovely fairytale element to the book, making it fun to read at any time. I believe anyone interested in improving their life would find something of benefit in this book.

I whole heartedly recommend this new book written by my favorite Ayurvedic Teacher Acharya Shunya. This is not another figure out your dosha book, but a true guide to understanding and beginning to live the Ayurvedic lifestyle. It also has beautiful recipe’s and directions for detox that will support long time practitioners. Filled with information about the ancient practices of Ayurveda, you will learn how to heal yourself through simple, elegant methods that are in harmony with nature. How to eat properly according to the seasons and treat your body with things like warm oil massages (abhyanga) and so much more to transform your health and sense of well-being. There’s some yoga, mantra, pranayama (breathwork) and even beauty support in the way of healing skin treatments, all in this book. I learned about Shunyaji while at a yoga teacher retreat back in 2009 with the great scholar David Frawley, aka Vamdeva. He told me if I really want to know Ayurveda the best person on the West Coast to learn from is Shunya. I looked her up and have had the great fortune to take several classes with her. He was right, she is the real deal. I am delighted that Shunyaji has put so much of her wonderful knowledge into a book that will help many people who might not be able to see her in person. The recipe’s and directions offered in this book are a gift of light to the world, as is she, in this difficult time when we can all use a little healing for mind, body and spirit.

The depth of knowledge, knowing and research is outstanding. The author is the head of a spiritual lineage, granddaughter of a saint and sage and has grown up immersed in the knowledge of Yoga, Vedanta and Ayurveda. She ruthless keeps to the letter of the ancient scriptures and somehow makes it relevant, simple, enjoyable and empowering. This is a required text for someone who is committed to living beyond health - into super health and joy. Be prepared to drop your conditioning and confusion about how to live an eat well. In a world littered with over- and misinformation, Acharya Shunya, imparts truth from the ancients, who truly were the knowers. This is an indispensable book, you keep forever.

Yes, this book is full of interesting information..... quite repetitive about the author's upbriging. I found myself speed reading quite a few pages. If you want to implement her recommanded lifestyle and you are a working mom, you will need to hire a nanny to take care of your kids before and after school while you do your morning and evening routines of prayer, meditation, self-massage with oil and bathing.... and a chef to search for, order and cook with ingredients not always available at your local supermarket.... he will cook a different meal for each member of your family based on their dosha. Are you ready to eat rabbits and goats? why not cats and dogs? the outdated idea that you need animal protein to be strong was a sad surprise for me who has not eaten animals in 40 years and enjoy wonderful health. When you pool sesame seed oil in your mouth, you won't get wrinkles.... right! The author brags quite often about her school which becomes annoying.
