"B-Sides, Demos and Rarities" nennt sich die "neue" 59-Track-Sammlung von Single-B-Seiten, Demos und Raritäten aus dem PJ Harvey-Katalog, die sich über drei Jahrzehnte erstreckt. Die meisten der Songs sind derzeit weder physisch noch digital erhältlich, 14 davon sind bisher unveröffentlicht. Es ist bei weitem nicht die erste B-Seiten-Compilation, die PJ veröffentlichte (da gab es beispielsweise schon "Maniac: B-Sides 1991-1995", "Harder: B-Sides 1995-2001" und "Falling: B-Sides 2001-2008"), allerdings alle bislang nur auf Vinyl und alle schon lang vergriffen. Dass hier mal auch etwas auf CD vorgelegt wird ist lobenswert; allerdings zeigt alleine schon der Vergleich mit diesen Veröffentlichungen, dass es sich hier mitnichten um eine vollständige Sammlung der Jahre 1991 bis jetzt handelt, wie der Titel suggerieren könnte, sondern um eine bei weitem nicht komplette Auswahl. Trotzdem sind 59 Tracks schon eine Ansage und auch eine feine Sache für alle Fans, die eben noch nicht seit 1991 dabei sind. Schön wäre dann tatsächlich ein zweites Volume, das das Thema vervollständigt, denn genügend seltenes Material wäre durchaus noch vorhanden.
Das Mastering dieses 3-Disc-Sets erfolgte jedenfalls durch Jason Mitchell bei Loud Mastering unter der Leitung des langjährigen PJ Harvey-Produzenten John Parish. Fast ein Drittel (16 Songs) sind dabei Demos (mit denen PJ seit einiger Zeit ja sowieso generell nicht gerade geizt), der Rest B-Seiten, bisher nur digital oder völlig unveröffentlichte Songs. Auf Liveversionen wurde dankenswerterweise verzichtet. Trotzdem hätte es sich aber angeboten, auf Demos zu verzichten und dafür lieber eine komplette B-Seiten / Raritäten-Sammlung vorzulegen. Aber auch so kann man schon sehr zufrieden sein, da sogar etliches für Fans geboten wird, die von Beginn an jede Veröffentlichung gekauft haben.
Das Artwork des Gatefold-Pappcovers wurde von Maria Mochnacz in Zusammenarbeit mit Rob Crane betreut und enthält bisher unveröffentlichte Archivfotos. Sieht ziemlich schick aus neben den anderen weißen Demoveröffentlichungen von PJ.
