Extra-padded shoulder strapsThe baby carrier has shoulder straps with luxuriously thick padding to make carrying even more comfortable for you. |

For the Best Carrying Experience

4-way front and back carryingThe baby carrier features three front positions and one back position. The newborn position allows you to carry your little one in an optimal way – high up on your chest and close to your heart. No infant-insert is needed. When your child is a little older, the height can be lowered and you can choose to either carry facing inwards or outwards. With simple zipper adjustments, you can select between normal and wide leg positions. From 12 months on, you can then carry your toddler on your back. |
Perfect fit from newborn to 3 yearsSpecially designed to fit your baby right from birth, the Baby Carrier One has firm, adjustable head support for secure and proper placement of baby’s head and neck. The legs and hips are in an ergonomically correct position that is recommended by pediatricians. Your child is always carried upright, which keeps airways open and allows you to check on your baby’s breathing. |
Baby Carrier One: A hip-healthy baby carrierThe International Hip Dysplasia Institute has tested Baby Carrier One and acknowledges it as a 'hip-healthy' baby carrier. This means that the hips of a newborn baby get the correct support and are held in an optimal position with the legs angled outwards. This encourages good hip joint development that is so important during the first months of your child’s life. |

Lillebaby's straps hit in a way that still hurt my back, plus, it has an oddly large front pocket that dipped down and hit me while I walked. I will say the mesh was beautiful and heavy duty.
Beco Gemini, while I loved the cross-back straps, felt incredibly thin and unsupportive where baby sits.
Tula is nice and tons of fun patterns, but only for babies who can spread their hips to straddle you - at 3 months, my baby is not ready for that. And when I put in an infant insert, he just cried harder.
Ergo is fine, but again, that front pocket dipped down further and I felt it when I walked up stairs (I must have a short torso).
My husband finally asked, "well, does Bjorn make one with a waist strap?" Um, hello, why didn't I think of that. I went on their site and compared their different models. Living in the rainy Pacific Northwest, despite being more spendy, the different materials used making this "Outdoors" model appealed to us. It is AMAZING. The different fabrics are really far and away higher quality than the other carriers. I love how the buckles work; they're just well made and snap into place so easily. Yes, it's a tad more cumbersome to put on: You buckle on the waist strap, then sort of pull the carrier over your head like a sweatshirt. It was no big deal, and once it was on, the difference was apparent. The shoulder straps were well padded and hit in a great place. The ability to unzip different levels to elongate the carrier's support was really clever. The fabrics truly feel like a step above. And, on top of all that, it looks masculine enough for my husband to wear!
If you're on the fence, get it. You'll wear it every day for months and the comfort will be worth every penny.
I haven't quite figured out how to fold it up like the picture, but will keep working on that.
I will share more feedback after I bring it on our trip to Disney next month, which will be the real test (long days plus warm weather)! I have the black cotton version.
UPDATE: baby is now 6 months and, after owning the carrier for a longer period of time (including taking it on a trip to Disney), I still like it but I do have a few complaints to list. First is when baby is facing in and asleep, her head knocks into the buckles (there isn't much room between them for her sleeping head). Second, I wish it had a pocket for my keys, tissues, etc. Third, it's thick so it was very hot to use in Florida weather and I don't find it to be very portable.
All that said, I still tend to use this one when I want the option to either face baby out or in. It's comfortable on my waist and I love that it's easy to put on by myself and adjust. I still use my Ergo though when I know I want baby to face in and sleep (and I can cover her head I the Ergo to protect against sun). Ergo is lighter / more portable.
Update!
Two days later and we have approval from the little guy. Naps have been achieved front carry both inward and outward facing. The only drawback with this version de-bjorning a napper is a bit tricky. The original allowed you to unclasp all parts and leave the back panel under the baby if you wanted. Since this is all one piece you need to remove baby while maintaining the nap... Plus sides - bf is still possible in the carrier... and the loops intended for tucking in straps are great for attaching toys, keys, etc. All in all I'd recommend! (Thus the upgrade to 5 stars).
