Babybjörn Baby Carrier One
Ergonomic 4-way front and back baby carrier.
The Ultimate Ergonomic Edition
Ergonomic leg position
The seat area is more than 12 inches wide and is designed to give your child a proper wide leg position when you carry the child facing you.
Extra-padded shoulder straps
The baby carrier has shoulder straps with luxuriously thick padding to make carrying even more comfortable for you.
Good stability in the waist belt
The stability of the waist belt gives real pressure relief when you carry. It allows the weight of baby to be more evenly distributed for a more comfortable fit.
For the Best Carrying Experience
4-way front and back carrying
The baby carrier features three front positions and one back position. The newborn position allows you to carry your little one in an optimal way – high up on your chest and close to your heart. No infant-insert is needed. When your child is a little older, the height can be lowered and you can choose to either carry facing inwards or outwards. With simple zipper adjustments, you can select between normal and wide leg positions. From 12 months on, you can then carry your toddler on your back.
Perfect fit from newborn to 3 years
Specially designed to fit your baby right from birth, the Baby Carrier One has firm, adjustable head support for secure and proper placement of baby’s head and neck. The legs and hips are in an ergonomically correct position that is recommended by pediatricians. Your child is always carried upright, which keeps airways open and allows you to check on your baby’s breathing.
Baby Carrier One: A hip-healthy baby carrier
The International Hip Dysplasia Institute has tested Baby Carrier One and acknowledges it as a 'hip-healthy' baby carrier. This means that the hips of a newborn baby get the correct support and are held in an optimal position with the legs angled outwards. This encourages good hip joint development that is so important during the first months of your child’s life.

Both the Ergo 360 and this BabyBjorn use roughly the same design, i.e. a thick hip-belt connected to a large fabric flap that has two shoulder straps that keep the flap (and baby) from falling forward. I was actually quite surprised in how similar the overall design of the BabyBjorn was to the Ergobaby.
Because of these similarities, the way the baby's is distributed on your body is very similar and feel very similar to wear. So how are they different?
The BabyBjorn has quick-release clasps at both the front side (front when wearing the baby in front) and top of the carrier. The Ergo 360 doesn't making the Bjorn easier to get in and out of. With the Ergo you place your hand over baby and then slip your arm out of each shoulder strap. It's very doable but just much easier to work the latches on the Bjorn than it is to wriggle out of the Ergo.
Hip belt on the Ergo is Velcro with a safety buckle. I know many aren't a fan of this design, but I found it very easy to use. The Bjorn uses a hook-and-latch system that is easy to get in and out of but also requires either sucking in your tummy or loosening and retightening when you put it on.
The BabyBjorn has a height adjust for infants of differing ages. When open you unzip the front flap from one position and re-zip it into another, longer/taller position. By default, it is set to the smaller child position. The Ergo does not have this adjustability.
Seating position adjustment:
The BabyBjorn uses two zippers at each side to adjust how babies legs hang, (very simple) while the Ergo uses two sets of buttons. Both systems work well.
Both are finished in soft and comfortable material but the front flap of the BabyBjorn has some stiffening reinforcement in it.
The added clasps and reinforcement add to the weight of the BabyBjorn making it heavier to wear than the Ergo 360. I didn't notice the difference while wearing it, but if you're looking for the lightest load possible it's something to consider.
Finally both have a front flat that can be folded down when baby is facing out.
Both are excellent carriers with the difference coming down to weight, simplicity, features and ease. I doubt you could go wrong with either and would recommend trying both on to see which works best for you.
Finally, if you are like me and are a little confused by the instructions, both companies have YouTube videos on how to properly use these carriers. They take a lot of the guesswork out of strapping them on and I recommend those as well.
Lillebaby's straps hit in a way that still hurt my back, plus, it has an oddly large front pocket that dipped down and hit me while I walked. I will say the mesh was beautiful and heavy duty.
Beco Gemini, while I loved the cross-back straps, felt incredibly thin and unsupportive where baby sits.
Tula is nice and tons of fun patterns, but only for babies who can spread their hips to straddle you - at 3 months, my baby is not ready for that. And when I put in an infant insert, he just cried harder.
Ergo is fine, but again, that front pocket dipped down further and I felt it when I walked up stairs (I must have a short torso).
My husband finally asked, "well, does Bjorn make one with a waist strap?" Um, hello, why didn't I think of that. I went on their site and compared their different models. Living in the rainy Pacific Northwest, despite being more spendy, the different materials used making this "Outdoors" model appealed to us. It is AMAZING. The different fabrics are really far and away higher quality than the other carriers. I love how the buckles work; they're just well made and snap into place so easily. Yes, it's a tad more cumbersome to put on: You buckle on the waist strap, then sort of pull the carrier over your head like a sweatshirt. It was no big deal, and once it was on, the difference was apparent. The shoulder straps were well padded and hit in a great place. The ability to unzip different levels to elongate the carrier's support was really clever. The fabrics truly feel like a step above. And, on top of all that, it looks masculine enough for my husband to wear!
If you're on the fence, get it. You'll wear it every day for months and the comfort will be worth every penny.
