Top customer reviews
I was intrigued when I saw this scope since it had really good reviews, was priced competitively, and included rings. Frankly, I had realistically had low expectations but I wasn't about to spring for a Leupold for a 10/22, so I gave it a shot.
I have to say, my expectations were not only surpassed, they were blown clear out of the water. This scope would be a bargain at twice the price. Yes, it's made in China. But the fit, finish, clarity, and controls on this are all 100%. I was very impressed with the feel, appearance, and performance of the product overall.
However... and this is the important part - the rings are just junk. They are machined nicely, finished nicely, and complement the scope well, but they're designed badly. When you tighten down the clamping screw, they try to rise up as the clamping block pivots on the screw. Buy some real rings, and you're golden. I raided my scope parts stash and came up with a set of 70's blued Weaver rings that worked nicely.
I'm cautious with my 5 star ratings, especially for budget-priced imported products, but they got this one right. It's VERY nice. I'm ordering another for my Remington 552.
Unable to zero since none of the adjustments would work.
Finally, I went to a local gun store and paid 3 times the price for a scope that works.
Disappointed to say the least.
The Barska gives me a much clearer, brighter picture and a lot more magnification. It fits the Model 60's dovetail mounting grooves fine and zeroing was easy; just twist the knobs. It's still early going, but early impressions are very good. It looks mighty nice and impressive on this rifle. It's a great, accurate, reliable old piece, but I may have to refinish the stock so the gun doesn't feel embarrassed.
I was a little put off by reviews complaining about poor mounts and a smell. Maybe they improved the mounts, because these seem fine to me. Far better than the ones on the scope that came with the rifle, and those did the job adequately. As for the smell; I get what people are referring to. I don't find it all that strong or objectionable. It smells like a new tire to me. No doubt it will fade with time.
On the Model 60, the tightening knobs (fingers, coin, or screwdriver) do get a little in the way of the charging handle. Still workable, but slightly annoying. I plan to reverse the mounts so these knobs are on the left instead of the right.
Turrets on this are very easy to operate and don't require tools. Adjusting powers is easy and seamless. I thought it had very clear glass.
One thing I will say to change is the scope rings. One is, the fit the dovetail weaver rail on the 10/22 which I didn't notice till I bought it. I liken the dovetail rail to securing your fingernail underneath a penny. I had a tough time maintaining tightness on the rings so I ordered UTG rings that fit the standard size weaver rail on the 10/22 and I couldn't be happier. Still a five star product.
